fruit body development
    #4997005 - 11/29/05 11:46 PM (18 years, 5 months ago)

Hello,
Does any one know what the effects of excessive Co2 are on stalk develpment in comparison to trays grown with excessive oxygen or atmospheric air? Also, has any one expermented with growing cubensis in the dark once a uniform pin set has been established that could desribe the effects on mushoom formation? Can mushooms grown in near 100 percent nitrogen or helium atmospheres. What is oxygens function on fuit body develpment? Can mushrooms grow in an artifical 100 percent oxygen atmosphere?

Elongated stems.

>Can mushooms grown in near 100 percent nitrogen or helium atmospheres.
What is a "near" 100% nitrogen atmosphere? 90% 95%? And why would you want to do this?

>What is oxygens function on fuit body develpment?
The same as in humans, oxygen is reqired for "breathing".

>Can mushrooms grow in an artifical 100 percent oxygen atmosphere?
Might be, but why?

For the same reason a man once tested cubensis growth in a wind tunnel with winds comming from various diretions to see what happens. I would like to determine the effect of vaious gases on fruitbody develpment but would care not to do anyting too foolish.  Also what about the light part of the question ever tried that.  :mushroom2:

I once grow some EQ's...cased(50/50), and had to leave them unattended for something like a month I think..(forgive me it's been awhile). Anyway when I left they were pinning, but by the time I got back to them they grew to be the largest shrooms I have yet seen.
They were left in the dark, without any air exchange what so ever.
I had completly forgot about them. I didn't touch them, as they just didn't appear to be all that healthy, but damn they were friggin hugh! The caps were the size of large hamburger patties.
Of course this could be because they were from somebody that used to work with this stuff for a living.
Shroomage was a good friend indeed. Wish I still had that print!

The mushrooms answered my own question on lighting at least. Mushrooms seem to grow larger, taller at least when co2 is increased and light is cut off. I have notice to be true also in the wild were the very tall grass in the field proudces the largest mushroom bringing into question is it the co2 or the light deprivation that causes accelerated growth in the form of stem elongation.

I'm no expert but I would think that in the situation of mushrooms in the wild there are more than two variables to be considered. In the wild there's naturally composted organic matter, regular and constant air exchange, possible symbiotic relationships, microorganisms, etc...

The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum - even encourage the more critical and dissident views. That gives people the sense that there's free thinking going on, while all the time the presuppositions of the system are being reinforced by the limits put on the range of the debate

just my findings i measure my mushrooms twice a day and i have found that they grow at least 50% more when there is light but ofcourse the temp is about 3 degrees warmer when the light is on and by adding a bulb when there is no sun also adds growth durring that time
