Where is the Rain!?!?
    #4970610 - 11/22/05 10:00 PM (18 years, 4 months ago)

I live in Olympia, and have this is my first, yet, sucsessful season of hunting. lately there has been NO RAIN! I havent even gone out to my known patchs in a week or two cause of the lack of rain. I was wondering if it is worth going if there hasnt been virtually any rain, or if it is just hopeless.

Definitely check them, I had a patch that didn't produce more than 5 mushies until almost a week ago when it put out a LOAD of pins. It hadn't been raining a lot or anything. To make a short story long, I put some wet newspaper over the pins and they have been growing well with occasional watering. Some of them have been growing really well without watering too, so who knows what drives the little bastards to thrive. Some patches are freakin strange!

This foggy ass weather in B'ham is better than nothing!

yeah I have been bummed about the lack of rain. It's been foggy though so it's worth a look. Weather.com says we should be getting rain tomorrow night so it should be a good weekend for hunting.

My patches are all still fruiting from the rain two weeks ago. Remember, it's been cold so that has slowed things down.

It is way easier to see cyans when they are drying and all blue. WE found so many cyans at a new spot near my big patch just because their camo is gone. Also 3 days ago i found my own patch about 5 minutes from my house. I walk past there almost every day too BUT since they were all dry and blue they stood out. Its great. I would look cause they may not be the best loookin cyans but they are wayyy easier too find.

Why not check areas that are heavily watered.. id say.. industrial parks... they love to keep up their gardens .

I've had poor luck hunting in those areas. Apparently, the cyans need the dry spell in summer.

I understand that your waiting for the rain, but i live very close to oklahoma and our temps. haven't been over 60 in along time, and at night it is freezing or close. I don't know if this has a grave effect on the growing of these fruits in the wild, but I think its too late in the season and far to cold to get anything worth looking for.
