 Best drug for playing music?

If any of you are musicians out there, I was wondering if any of you had any good experiences playing music tripping or high (either alone or with a band). I play bass and I think I have a lot of great vision and creativity when I'm high but for some reason I can't play well because either my motor coordination sucks or I keep forgetting what I'm doing. Mushrooms I just get all scrambled and can't play anything of importance. Acid might be good, but I've never tried it. Does anyone have any opinions? Or is sober the best way to play?

Or you could jam on your guitars on shrooms with a tape recorder going. When your done tripping, listen back and see if you get anything good. Unfortunatly I happened to write Wish You Were Here... hahahaha... too bad Floyd did it 30 years earlier...

Everyday before band last year I would toke up and would play fairly well, not any better but not any worse, though it was more enjoyable.
On acid I have only tried playing once, and that didn't turn out all too hot, possibly because I didn't have an amp with me, and thus couldn't hear what I was "playing."
On shrooms I felt like I was playing amazingly, it sounded so beautiful and was so endless ... however, nobody sober was around to judge how well I really was playing. All I know is that I got so into my playing, it was just so fuckin amazing, like I was playing a journey ... undescribable
Hendrix used to play a lot of concerts on acid. But then again he was a musical phenomenon, I don't think the acid did too much for him heh.
Experiment, see what works for you.
On E I got bored of playing, and I knew I was playing shit.
On speed I play very well, and extremely precise.
I'd say weed is the best all around drug for playing music.

I believe Shrooms are for drummers.
I played a show once shroom'n. It was fucking awesome. The lights reflecting off my cymbals was intense.
Everyone I talked with after said I was on fire.
It was a great experience.
To much pot fucks my time up. (slow)
Speed fucks me up period.

Depends. For recording pre-written stuff, I think coke is top choice. My chops improve five fold on coke, but my writing/improv ability goes to shit.
Seeing has how i mainly play in live/improv situations, though, coke isn't that grand. I've played on acid twice, both times being absolutely amazing (audience agreed). I've played on mushrooms once. I thought I was doing some unbelievable shit. The audience liked it, but i was told that i sounded pretty similar to the way that i usually did. Getting really baked is something I always do before playing, so i can't really comment on pot's affect on my playing. Opiates make me lose interest in playing.
So, um, acid for unbelievable improv trips. Pot for day in day out playing. Coke for recording shit. Yeah.

I really dont know? but like Peachdude says it definately helps improvising.. I rember when I was fifteen like the fifth or sixth time I dosed I tried playing andmy hands got all sweaty everyone was staring at me and the strings felt like string cheese..dammit.. But everytime since then I have blown myself and other people away playing on acid.. especially when me and my bro jam out toghether its fuckin sic telepathic impro.. But yeah when ur guitars dancing like a cobra and ur fingers are melting into the strings and dripping on the floor its kinda strange that you can still jam -out mad.

Hey, personally I seem to play and jam better on acid, but...
i can never seem to write the tabs or notes i played. Either I forget or im too confused.....lol

My advice to you is to try acid. If you ever did shrooms, its the same thing, except that on acid you tend to get lost in your own thoughts. Music is the same way, you get lost in it , some of the things ive written while on acid are the crazyiest, most skrewed up things ever and if your trying to write good music trying acid is a good idea.... just make sure you are with people you trust...

I think I am more creative after smoking alot, but my skills on all instruments suffer quite a bit. As far as technical skill and getting stuff recorded and done go, any sort of amphetamines are great. It can be fun to play on acid, but I am usually too gone to achieve much of anything!

I live for music and playing my guitar
playing guitar is fucking incredible on acid, the funnest thing in the world, i play for hours and hours until someone drags me away.
you get totally lost in the infinite world of music and rhythm, like someone else said, its like your playing a journey and are on a mystical quest, floating through time and space, with little stars and crescent moons dancing with fire and colliding with each other to sound 'notes'
gotta really learn your shit sober though.. after you finish your training, then you're ready to go on the journey ;)
even if you dont know how to play an instrument, just borrow a djembe or any hand drum from someone or just bang on some pots and pans.. anyone can create a rhythm, we are all part of it

My friends/bandmates say I'm at my best (I've played guitar for 12 years) when I'm on acid/shrooms.
For example, my roommate found some super-strong cubies a few weeks ago. Four of us tripped, and I jammed for a half-hour with one of them - a bassist - they said, "man, you're really good," although I had played for them a thousand times before.
Used to jam with a guitar buddy and his girlfriend (a wannabe drummer.) It was one of our weekly activities - drop too much acid, then head to the practice room. Made the drummer and I infinitely better, but my friend, who also plays guitar (usually better than I), really blew goats. Takes all kinds, I suppose.
Made flangers, reverbs, choruses, harmonic distortions, etc. seem REALLY alien. In a nice way.
Makes improvization shoot through the roof - variation on a theme, 12 bar blues, jazz, "hearing" chords, etc. Would not have had very much luck WRITING, however. Not writing music... I mean writing, period. :)

i play bass. im allways high and i play well and create new shit.i can rip shit up on coke for some reason.couldent play a damn thing while trippin.never tried playing on crank yet.opium is ok for it.

we record all the time on shrooms. amazing things come out, the only problem is we sometimes dont remeber what the fuck we were doin. i play bass and keyboards (i occasionaly record guitar) and we make strange electronic tinged music, and for that its great.
i used to draw with an old friend on acid. some crazy shit came out....

I can rarely get shrooms around here at all, and the two times I have tripped I haven't had my guitar with me, unfortunately.
I play high alot though, everything sounds great to me and I get creative... but no one else really notices the difference, I guess.

Playing in a band is somewhat right-brained as you have to be acutely aware of tempo, chord changes and what your band-mates are doing.
As I play experimental synth, i.e. I paint soundscapes; tripping is the way to go, as there are no rules. Here are Swami's faves in moderate dosages:

Yeah i play bass too and i find i come up with some really good shit when I'm wasted on pot. Another fun thing to do is get someone who is really off their face to act how they think tey should to the music you're playing. It can be really hilarious/entertaining.

My fellow guitar player and I like to jam out a lot, usually we just sit there and play sober but things can get interesting when drugs are involved. Well, we tend to be fairly heavy pot smokers, so that's usually a given. But once on mushrooms, we started jamming and totally connected on another level.. we were playing what I would call harmonic elf music..improvizing and playing in perfect synchronicity.. it was amazing.. we played for two hours straight without stopping. We listened to some of it later and it was awesome. LSD is good for creating music also I think. I tried playing after smoking some salvia extract.. that didn't work too well.
But for me, the absolute best drug to play music on is adrenaline. Absolutely amazing. (Playing for large groups of people)

When I tried playing a classical guitar on my first shroom trip I really felt 'lost.' I really play guitar quite a lot, but at that time it just felt so odd to hold a guitar. There were also people around and it was my first trip, so off course I was pretty nervous. I remember one of my friends saying that I wasn't really good, but I couldn't really help it. I did feel my fingers melt into the strings 
On some other occasion, after having smoked a good amount of weed, I played an electric guitar and my playing was a lot better. I played for about half an hour and people (about 6) kept on listening and telling me they were enjoying it. I was just jamming which I usually like best. It feels more natural to me than when you're really counting out rhytms, but off course that has to be done too.

Pot- Fills my soloing with more "soul" but makes my chords progressions go all to hell.
Ecstacy- This is great for playing. It enhances my hearing and other perceptions so much, and i can feel every note i play for what it really is, enhances my technical skills a little to.
Mushrooms- Helps me create very scattered ambient and diverese songs that sometimes end up with like fifty perfect changes that flow into each other greatly. Then i forget it all.
Acid- Doesnt really work for me, fucks up my playing, but i'm sure its a mental thing :/
Heroin- heheh FEELS really cool. Totally relaxes me and makes me enjoy what i'm doing by about ten times.
DXM- LOL
Alcohol- My favorite "all purpose jamming tool" since i dont smoke up anymore, Doesnt really enhance to much but it makes it more fun.
Coke- I dont know what you guys are talking about, it makes my wanna jam the fuck out.
Theres more i'm forgeting, i know. I've been told i play really well when i'm rolling or drunk. When i shroom and play i've been told i have a pretty cool style. Those are the only ones that really make my style of playing manifest in a new way. But i enjoy some of the other ones to. Certain pill combos are also enjoyable, but dont really enhance me i guess.

Shrooms will give you glorious things if you go deep (heavy dose), alone and in the dark. But be careful as they may teach you some respect. Play your music and "see".
Weed gives me inspiration and ideas, especially if I lay off for a couple of days to a week and then smoke and play.
