with all the money and reasources the government has i am pretty sure they have figured out a way to tap into phones without the user knowing in any way...

the goverment isnt THAT unsly...

a cell phone sends a RF(radio) signal and it is very easy to tap into all one needs is a good shortwave radio so BE carefull what you speak of on cell phones

When I was in high school, I had a scanner bought from Radio Shack that would pick up cell conversations somewhere around the 900 MHz range and slightly above...

I think most new phones and services use frequencies that are a little harder to get with an as-bought scanner, but I could be wrong... it's been a few years.

Can conversations from 'digital' services be picked up with a normal scanner?

900mhz are cordless phones, not cell phones.

And, unfortunately, there is no way of knowing if someone is listening to your cell phone conversation. That is the nature of wireless communication.

first off the govt wouldnt have to hack anything. the company would gladly do it at the asking. it may ot be inadmissable without a warrent but they still know. theres alot of books about modern scanner modifications so you can access locked channels.pretty much ant scanner made after 1995 is locked. delta press has a wide array of books on this subject
