Say something constructive

I get tired of all the threads about bashing Bush or how incompetent the Democrats are. I think politics should be about ideas, not people. Let's contribute our ideas for making this world a better place, and not get hung up on partisan mud-slinging.

I'll go first:
Let's stop using the GDP as a measure of economic well-being. GDP just measures growth of national income and output without distinguishing good growth from bad growth. I recommend we switch to the Genuine Progress Indicator, or GPI, instead.

a three party political system
that way there can be opportunity for one to do the right thing and beat the other two
with a two party they just both do fucked up shit all the time and our choice really doesn't matter all that much, shit stays fucked-up regardless

not politics, maybe the common political system both situations exemplify.

Regulation of political ads-so ignore the first amendment and let the government control what candidates(and their supporters/opponents) can and can't say=
Free and equal media spots to all candidates-let the government take over private media outlets and dictate what they can or can't broadcast to their respective audiences=
Your constructive ideas=

I wish those in Congress and in the Senate should put aside their differences and hammer out a budget that doesn't screw the poor. Like that'll ever happen...

regulation can mean more than control of content, i did not mean control of content
private media in a public election is nonsense and leads to the person with the most money having a distinct advantage over all others. if this idea doesnt suit you, then perhaps they shouldnt be allowed to put things on private media and only be allowed to use a regulated public media for this public affair (free to all candidates, time distributed equally), regulation towards equality not against free speech.

If you aren't controling content then what are you controlling? channel, time?
Private media is just that PRIVATE, not to be dicked with by the gov't. If someone can't generate the money then so sad to bad. They can go try and raise more or make some new friends who are important. Have you seen some of the crackpot candidates that run for office, we have a mentally handicap guy that runs for every election in my town. You can't regulate fairness that rigidly at some point someone is going to get the short end of the stick, that's just the way life goes.

If they can raise the funds to put together a campaign that reaches the masses then go for it. I don't care how they get their money(as long as it isn't from the gov't) or how they get their message out if they can do it let 'em run. I don't want the government telling people how they can or can't run for office, it's a bit of a conflict of interest don't you think?

contribution inequality-well life is one giant inequality there will always be haves and have nots. You won't ever be able to make a completely level playing field for everyone, some people will always be better at campaigning and fund raising than others and they will be the ones that succeed in the political arena. Political injustice is letting the people who don't contribute in anyway to society participate in the political process. It really is screwing the rest of us.
