Water
    #495507 - 12/18/01 11:46 PM (21 years, 9 months ago)

I am just getting started - got my sryinges today. I was reading in the PF TEK 2001 Edition that "natural" water is the best (Pond, Swamp, etc). I am assuming that the sterilization of the jars kills any bad stuff in this water, is that correct? My second question is can I use water from a bucket of horse manure that has sat outside for awhile and has made a tea. I would think this water is full of the nutrients for the shrooms, but I am unsure of any disadvantages. If I filter( through a coffe filter) and boil this water is it OK. I know just starting and want to modify things already.

Thanks for the help.

Natural water is good if you can get your hands on it from an unpolluted source. Next step down is spring water and then finally tap water. Tap water really isn't that bad.

As for the horsemanure stew you've got going I say do a jar or two extra with this stuff and see how it goes. Make sure you sterlize it well though because evil stuff like e. coli and the likes might have penetrated that water. Oh and be prepared for some stinky substrate if you plan on taking these shitjars inside :)

Thanks for the help with the water, I have a little creek about a mile from me. Guess I'll take a walk with a bucket.
Thanks again.
