I KNOW P. Cyanescens Blue, but do Galerinas?
    #4944936 - 11/17/05 12:38 AM (18 years, 3 months ago)

I have this paranoia that I will accidentally find a Galerina in my many P. Cyanescens picking trips--I"m SO sure I havent but there's that lingering hellacious feeling! Someone please tell me: Do Galerina's BLUE so obviously after picking like the P. Cyans do? And do they REALLY look that alike?

Love,
Ironvein :mushroom2: :mushroom2: :mushroom2: :mushroom2:  :frown:    :crazy2: :stoned:   :syringe:

Hmmmm well if you did happen to mistake one for a Cyan I would think it would most likely be a younger Cyan? Because the ripe ones look so distinctive.

Has anyone ever picked Cyans that bruised extremeley purple. I found a patch that was very wet and everything was bruising dark purple so I did not pick it. They were identical to cyans in everyway but the bruising purple and not blue. They were actually growing next to patches of Galerinas.

I found about 65 cyans the other day, looking in all the areas, I would also see mushrooms extremely similar to cyan, except I would look at the stem, and the gills and know its not a cyan. Cyans ALways have a white stem. Galerinas also do not bruise blue, no.

You have a paranoia about finding a galerina? that's a new one.
Familiarity with both species will help deter your paranoia.
Galerina to my knowledge/experience do not blue.

Also they do look alike, yes, how much they look alike depends on the experience of the eye really.

Some Galerina bruise black.
There is a distinct difference between black and blue, but the anxious hunter may overlook the actual color of bruising. All that matters to some people is that it turned a dark color.

.Trust me just read up on every species you can find.. hunt a couple of times and make sure what they are.... do this and you will have a 6th sense and no paranoia.. im speaking for myself though.. but reports justify this. There are characterstics that differ the two.. for example... a yellow stem and not bruising blue. BTW My favorite color is blue.. I love mushies.. ooOo ahh  :crazy2:.

Savako, Galerina stems are orangy-cinnamon and are not yellow. AND THEY HAVE A RING, AND P. cyanescens stems are white with no ring.
