We're a plague
    #494442 - 12/18/01 01:22 AM (21 years, 11 months ago)

I just wanted to know if any of you fully grasp the magnitude of our effect on this planet.
It has taken our mother earth eons to develope a complex system of interdependance in nature, and we have almost completely destroyed it in a mere few centuries.
Just thought you should know. If your not part of the solution, your part of the problem. Please don't take me down with you.

live natural man, don't waste shit, don't buy stuff that comes in plastic containers, grow it yourself, live natural.

easy to say I know, still, many of us are working on it - I assume you are too?

it's not going so good. I don't know where the point of no return is, but if we haven't crossed it yet, we're fast approaching. and with no back-up plan I'm getting worried.

dude I reckon we need to forget about WE and cut it down to ME, what am I doing? it's one thing to think about evil corporations and starving people and wars and this and that and it seems like an impossibly big problem but really what if I just learn the skills necessary to live a simple natural life in a beautiful place (you know land and houses are actually really cheap the further you get from the cities?) and live out the rest of my days happily with some good folks? what's all this about points of no return? every point is one of no return is it not? where do you want to return to? maybe if you practice shroomisms time travel meditation it can be done but so far it seems to me that we can only go forwards, so rather than dream of things being the way they used to be let's WORK HARD and live well. maybe you haven't found them yet but there are actually a whole lot of really good people out there moving things in the right direction. good luck!

"Simplicity, Simplicity, Simplicity. Let your affairs be but two or three."
Use this, Thoreau, such a wise man.
I think that we have a small and fading window of opportunity to slow and stern the process of extinction that will undoubtedly occur. Be concerned with yourself and what you can do, not what other people are mixed up in. Because in my opinion the majority of the population is hopelessly lost in there own delusions never to return to a discernable reality.
Even if what we do to help has no lasting effect, atleast I know that when I'm on my death bed that I tried. To me the effort far outways the result.

Cool. Let's kill ourselves. Er, everyone BUT ourselves.. or you. How come everybody who wants to trim the population expects to not be part of the trimming?

Very true, Very true.
It's a common human trait( however un-desirable ), to assume that whatever your belief that it above all other is right; that whatever your moral standings that everyone else is below you.
While I do appreciate your comment, who said anything about population trimming. If that is what you gathered from my statemants I apologize. I meant that most are lost and should be left to there hopelessness, because they are beyond help; not to say that they do not deserve to live. I think that no matter how detramental every human deserves the right to life. But that good souled people should be concerned with themselves and there brethren, not with the ramblings of a lost and quite mad modern society.

we are not a plague. we are not inherently evil. there is goodness, or the capacity for it in all human beings. in thoughtless action we deprive ourself of the beauty that may be found in achieving fortitude and strength of spirit. we may learn from our mistakes and we may not. this does not matter. live your life to the best capacity you can . if we deserve fire and brimstone- if you feel that way- then that is all you will ever achieve. do your best to be part of the bigger picture.

"you are as much a child of the universe as the trees and the stars"- the desiderata.

practise universal love. it is the only true emotion. all others are variations or corruptions.

while I agree that most seem to be beyond help I am also constantly seeing these same people, lost, ignorant but inherently good, waking up to their own ignorance and slowly coming out of it. at the moment one new friend of mine, a young guy who has lived his entire life in Shibuya - perhaps the most crowded area of tokyo, completely overrun by fashion and marketing, image, plastic commercial hell - this young guy is waking up!! for the past two months he has been coming out, through understanding the songs of Bob Marley, meeting brazilian rastafarian capoeiristas, training capoeira, coming with me to festivals and meeting real people who know many many things, discovering the ancient wisdom of his own culture....this is truly wonderful!!! his mind is whirling non stop these days so much that last week he really thought he was going insane but he is now just so full, literally bursting with joy at the discovery of what life really is and how beautiful it can be...i feel blessed to be a witness, and an active part of this process.

never give up on the dream. all of us can live together in this beautiful universe, circling around the sun under the stars playing music....no one is too far gone. we can't shout this dream at people and expect them to listen, but when they see it all but a few realise at once that it is real.

i'm starting to spout nonsense here so i'll stop, but I really mean this and I think we need to keep this dream in mind instead of dwelling on the negativity.

What the Hell are you talking about? We didn't do shit.

99.9% of the species that have lived on earth are extinct....we didn't kill them, hey just died. We may wipe out our selves, but it would be pretty silly to think we could actually hurt the earth.
It will be here long after us, and once where gone it will be as fine as it ever was.

everything is biodegradeable eventually, and if its not its geo-degradable, Magma and the Mantle will make short work of it.

save the earth? what a bunch of crap, the earth is fine, save humans is what people are really concered about, its utter selfishness

I think that its good that your concerned about our mother earth and want to help stop the harming of it. I am very interested in learning more about sience so I can understand more about how to help earth. I think that we need to realize that we have a future and we need to ask ourselves if we want to live it buy protecting our planet earth and get rid of the harmful automobiles that effect our earth with invisible gases that we can't see but are there slowly killing our earths beauty till some day it will be to late to bring back its animals and inhabitants. There are other was to get places and even other resources for a way to have power for vehicles like electricity and solar power. Its disapointing to see so many people now not careing very much about the concept that there is a ozone layer that will remain to depleat as long as we drive any carbon monoxide produceing vehicle. The problem I know can be fixed if we take care of it quickly buy elliminateing cars and find another method. This is just my view point.

By the way, O-zone depletion has nothing to do with Carbon dioxide, they're only realted by ways of the that's the green house effect.

O-zone depletion is cause by CFC's and other such chemicals....didn't you ever watch Captain Planet?

I dont like to see people poluting the earth and shit, but I mostly agree with the Penguin on this one. At the rate we are going right now we will easily wipe out ourselves and everything else thats left alive before we hurt the earth. People need to quit worrying about mother nature so much and start doing possitive things for people.

While it is true that the earth will always be able to heal herself even long after were all gone. In my mind that does not excuse the injuries we have caused her. You must realize that "That which befalleth the earth befalleth the suns of the earth."
Traveler - your not rambling in the least, I admire your view of the inherint(sp?) good in all. I do agree with you, I simple meant to illustrate that we cannot force people to realize what many of us have realized, they need to find it on there own. We should try and guide the lost, but how much of our precious time on earth should be wasted on the lost I ask. If a person is shown the truth and does not recognise and change his life accordingly, then that person is lost and will never find his way. You can lead a person to water but you cannot force him to drink.
While I do agree that the damage to this planet would have happened anyway, the fact is that a schedule of deterioration(sp?) over millions of years that has been exhorbinantly(sp?) sped up by our ignorance and foolishness. So we are at fault.

Who said anything about you haveing to agree with someone , where ever your getting your ideas from you should consider the fact that we wouldn't be here in the first place if it wasn't for our mother earth and yes I am an environmentalist. I don't want to wake up in a place with garbage floating down the sidewalks , I think our suroundings are a mirror of our selves.
