Hi, I'm pretty new to hunting and have would VERY much appriciate some help in identifying these mushies. I'd rather not poison myself.

those look good. do they bruise and stain blue? if so they are psychoactive. but wait for a second opinion because im not an expert.

I'm not sure exactly what they are, but they don't look like psilocybes at all. Take a spore print.

Look for them to stain blue immediately after you cut them. Take one and slice it in half. Notice the arrangement of gills. Are they attached to the stem? Is the stem hollow? I'd say, if they don't stain blue they are not psychoative. Actually, they don't look like psychoactive shrooms to me but it's hard to tell. If they have a very bitter taste or if they taste peppery or spicey don't eat them. Generally, psilocybe mushrooms don't really tast that bad, more like Asparagus/Spinach of course it depends on the species and strain and if they grew in shit. What kind of environment did you harvest them in? Do take a spore print. Most psilocybe mushrooms have dark purple/black spores. You could go get the Audobon Field Guide of Mushrooms, found at your local Barne's and Knoble or Books-A-Million to help you identify them. Don't eat them until you are 100% sure. You can taste them and then spit them out but don't ingest until you're sure. Ok, good luck.

Yes, those are Hypholoma fasciculare or the sulfur tuft. They must have been growing from tree stumps or dead roots of trees. They're poisonous, but won't melt your liver or kill you. Instead, they'll make your stomach upset and give you bad diahrreah or make you yack in the box.
