The Dream Idea

Okay, now, everyone knows it's virtually impossible to sleep DURING a mushroom trip.
However, I had an idea recently. What if someone were really sleepy, they went a few days without sleep or something, extremely tired. The kind of tired where you're out in 2 minutes.
What if someone ate a large dose of mushrooms(dry)(maybe upwards of 4g) and then went to sleep. What do you suppose the dream would be like? Would they awaken?

Yeah, I've heard of people who can train themselves to lucid dream.
Can you even IMAGINE how powerful that could be? If one could create lucid dreams normally, then taking a powerful psychadelic? I can't even begin to imagine..

Bad idea I think, the sleep deprivation would probably interfere with the effects leaving you more restless than before.

This would be a forced deprivation, not one who is an insomniac. Haven't you guys stayed up for 2 days or so when you were younger, with friends playing video games and such, and then just crashing?

I've been noticing the extreme relationship between a psychedelic trip and sleep deprivation lately.
Strassman wrote, in DMT Sprit Molecule that when the DMT experience is provoked, precursor chemicals present in the pineal gland (I think serotonin was one) that are normally used for melatonin production are instead used to produce DMT. He even suggested the possibility that if one takes DMT from an outside source, the brain might still be responsible for some of the trip being produced.
Interesting, the idea that the brain contributes it's own (possibly psychedelic) chemicals that are otherwise not released, or quickly taken down by the anti-DMT compounds as well as normal MAO enzymes. If this happens with psilocybin, perhaps melatonin production is severely impaired, causing the complete inablitity to sleep for most. Then again, maybe the brain is just too active, but it is an interesting idea.

i'd imagine it would just make you trip out really hard and feel restless because of being so tired..... i'm not sure if you could actually pass into a sleep state while tripping.....
either way it would be extremely delirious to try.......

It's something I've been meaning to try. I can induce lucid dreams if I try hard enough, it's not that difficult really. Lucid dreams are incredibly awesome, I've had 23 so far since June. I'd love to see what a lucid dream on mushrooms would be like.
The way I would do it is I would probably not sleep for a couple of days, then sleep for, say three or four hours, having an alarm wake me up (the time being about 03:00), eat the mushrooms and I should drop straight back to sleep into the dreams that await and wake up at a reasonable time.

i highly doubt you would dream. even less likely that it would be a lucid dream.
also sleep deprivation is extremely unhealthy for you. to combo that with a large dose of shrooms...no way would it be worth it...

If you have large breaks in your day when you can sleep, this is the best time to lucid dream. When you're a college student, sleep comes VERY easy at these times. Usually I have 2 or so semi-lucid dreams a week using this method.

Why woudn't you dream? You always dream during REM sleep...
I think it's very much worth a try. Could be a nice experiment if one were in a professional field, perhaps measure to sleep intervals, or the wave processes being formed.

you might not dream because you have a large amount of chemical reactions going on that may inhibit REM sleep.

yeah this is kinda true for me, but it's really difficult to fall all the way asleep.
I'll lay down after a day of not getting enough sleep, and I'll drift out in 5-10 minutes flat, but it takes me a good hour or so of just drifting in and out, rolling over, and feeling generally tired and unfullfilled before I finally cross over into lucid dream land.
and then I'm not dreaming really long enough to justify napping this long.... but of course napping kind of justifies itself I guess.....

That is a crazy idea, and would be incredible if you could remember all the details and write it down. I think you would have brain damage when you woke up though.

I have no idea what would happen, but I think it would depend on how you take the mushrooms. You'll want to have them kick in during REM sleep, not before. The newest studies on sleep show that the areas in the cerebral cortex, which put together perception or consciousness, become disconnected in the "pre-REM" sleep. Throwing psilocin in the mix would either prevent this pre-REM sleep (which really isn't good after sleep deprivation) by keeping the parts of the brain active and in communication, or it would not work at all until REM sleep kicks in and your consciousness comes back during dreams. At least that's what I think would happen.
Eating gel caps would be best, especially the vegan ones. REM sleep doesn't start until a couple hours before you wake up so you want the capsules to last until then. What I would do is put your dose of powdered mushrooms in gel caps then leave them by your bed. Have an alarm wake you up about 4 hours into sleep, take the gel caps and go back to sleep as quickly as possible.
Obviously I would start with lower doses first, even as low as .5g dried, and forgo the sleep deprivation entirely (it's very unhealthy and you're not going to make up for 2 days missed sleep with 7 hours of crazy mushrooms sleep). Besides you don't want your brain to be completely exhausted during a trip.

I have done it, and I do not remember it except to waking up to my friend saying, "you are having a bad trip." (though this experiment may have been canceled out because of other substances in my system)
It felt similar to being under the gas before getting surgery, where sll I remember is weird shapes and colors but in a completely tangent universe, even though I had not left my bed). I also remember feeling the things I see now (humans and their role in society, good vs. evil, etc., facing fears) but I have no recollection of what or how it happened.

you have obviously never tripped multiple days in a row grasshopper, i dont give a fuck how tired you are, if you eat some mushrooms, youd better plan on staying up

and it also sucks really bad to be super tired like 4 or 5 days without sleep and trip, all i can focus on is wanting so badly to go to sleep and not being able too, and i dont know if the affecs would be desirable, i wonder if some sleeping pills might do the trick, like pop 2 and wait 45 minutes and then pop a few vegi caps o' shroom

"You'll want to have them kick in during REM sleep, not before."
REM doesnt happen at one point of the night.
Sleep works in cycles, 90 minute ones. First is 4 stages of Non REM sleep. 1 2 3 4 then counts back down 3 2 1 Then REM sleep.
Thats a 90 minute cycle, then it repeats. As the cycles go on, stages 1, 3 and 4 shorten, and stages 2 and REM get longer. Dreams are more likly to happen in the later part of your sleep, after the mushrooms wear off, as are lucid dreams, but lucid dreams can occur in ANY stage, not just REM sleep (all dreams can in fact, but especially lucid ones, they often spill into other stages).
It is also likly that like with alcohol, REM sleep will be inhibited, and hardly occur at all. Either way, I would guess it was no more likly that youd have dreams, possibly less..however I do think if you were to have dream, they would more likly be lucid, and more likly be interesting and more different then normal. Just a guess.

I say just try it out, then you can see for yourself if it's pleasant. You don't need to take a huge dose though. Let us know if someone does this.

Well, I haven't tripped on shrooms for over a year, but there was this one time I fell asleep after dosing.... Took around 2-3gr in gel caps with a glass of water, and promptly fell asleep - for about 6 hours.... When I woke up, I was pissed because I had "missed my trip"....! I was in a good mood, but no effects to be noticed.... I got up and went to the store to get some food and was back in about 45 minutes from waking up.... And to my surprise, 10-15 minutes later my trip began....!? Luckily I had nothing planned for the day....
I can't think of a logical explanation for this experience....!? I am pretty sure that your stomach still works while you are sleeping..... I have noticed an approximate 20 minute to 1 hour delay with gel caps, but not 6-7 hours....
Whooda~ thunk~ it...!?

I have had up to 2-3 hours with gelcaps, if I ate before taking them.
Sleeping significantly slows down your digestion processes so that could also explain it..still a very long time to go without, I'd have expected them to kick in sooner.

One could find a way to interrupt REM sleep for a while, inhibiting REM sleep will create the REM rebound effect, making the tendency or ability to fall into REM sleep much higher and faster.
I think this would make for an interesting psychological study. But yes, the only way I could personally do it is to keep myself up for a few days, and take gelcaps, and REM sleep should happen right around the times the shrooms start kicking in. It's very difficult to wake someone up during REM sleep, so you'd have to incude REM rebound to make sure that REM sleep was faster, happened for longer amounts of time, and was a bit deeper than normal. Then the effects could be right-on I think.
-------------------- So it goes.
