Suggestions? 5lb of straw based
    #4937004 - 11/15/05 12:42 PM (18 years, 3 months ago)

Well this is officaly going to be my first grow attempt.

I have sucessfully colonized 100% of a 5lb straw based spawn bag (woah thats alot of myc in there... it looked like it exploded! most growth occured in a very short period)

Anyways since this IS my first attempt (in a college dorm with questionable sterality... we have mold issues everywhere)

Would i be better off spawning it as a GIANT cake, or casing it? Perhaps splitting it?

Suggestions on what to do with this one. (the only casing materials I have available to me is Verm. I also have Perlite... but that dosent seem to be suggested)

I have been reading the forms alot and have noticed casing does provide better yeilds, hoever im still looking for advice.

Thank you

Well, you have 5 lbs. of colonized straw you could split it in half and make two casings. one way or another i wouldn't put all your eggs in one basket ya know. vermiculite is a great casing material and like you said perlite is not recommended does not perform any tasks of a casing layer other that non nutritious.
