Does anyone know whether or not psilocybin/psilocin are soluble in butane, like thc/honey oil method. I'm thinking this would be an easy way to make an extract. I thought DMT was decently soluble (not for sure) perhaps the same for psilo's? Anyone got any input?

Despite the lack of explanation in InKe's response, I have to agree.

The oils in cannabis are precisely that, neutrally charged oils, and are therefore easily soluble in similar solvents, such as butane.

The alkaloids in mushrooms, as well as DMT, are basic amines, and are most likely bound up as vegetable salts, and would more likely be water soluble. Psilocybin is a zwitterion ("self-salt") and cannot be made neutral, while psilocin could be, but any manipulations would likely degrade much of the compound present.

A polar organic solvent like methanol does work, however, but it would likely extract lots of other polar compounds as well.

butane will not work, from what i know.

you can however make what i call psilliputty with a few simple steps.

There's nothing really "wrong" with it, but there are at least two potential problems:

1. Methanol is toxic. I'd let it dry for a while before ingesting, or better yet, put it under vacuum.

2. As stated in the recipe, measuring out dosage is hard with an amorphous goo. You might dissolve it one more time in absolute ethanol, add a known amount of some inert substance (like mint leaves) and evaporate it to a weighable quantity.

Of course, if you just don't like the taste, do a water extraction and imbibe, i.e. make tea.

well isopropanol has also been used to do that but the expierament was a failure so the tried test and true method was posted, the goo is really good and strong
