Double tub question
    #4925332 - 11/12/05 09:44 AM (18 years, 3 months ago)

Hey guys

I have a double tub question. Is it neccassary to cover the tubs after the casing layer is applied?

I have been having lots of problems with contamination, and I suspect it is due to lack of air circulation. I believe that by not covering the tubs it would take care of that in addition to adding some fans in the room.

I really dont see the point in covering the tubs after the casing layer is applied. The mycellium does not see light until it is covered up.

The double tub setup never changes. You should have a tub inverted on top of another tub throughout the entire process. During the incubation phases of spawning and casing the only difference is you will incubate in the dark and cover the tub with either a sleeping bag of trash bag.

The only time the conditions change is when you fruit; however the setup still does not change. You simply uncover the double tub and introduce light and fresh air exchange.

If you can get through the spawning phase without contaminates, fruiting is eminent as long as fresh air and light are introduced. Temperature drops are also needed through the fruiting phase as well.

The problem you are having with contaminates is likely due to your procedures leading up to the spawn or casing phase. You need to start with a sterile tub, sterile substrate, and finally, an unmolested colonized substrate medium for any successful grow.

That's it.
