Just wondering if there is any way that older threads, with a last post past a certain time frame (say 6 months or so) could be closed/locked en-mass. We're having a lot of threads 3, 4, even 5 years old being bumped either by accident or by... well you know 
I think one of the reasons for this is the "related threads links" that appear at the bottom of a thread page. Most of those links are cool... but ancient!

I'd hate to see people unable to reopen/continue a past discussion just because it had fallen silent for a period of time. Let us remember the following lines from the AR&G:
Nurture the community memory, pointing newcomers to archives, providing links to related conversations, past and present, hunting down resources to add to the collective pool of knowledge -- and teaching others to do it. Be the memory of the conference -- point and link to relevant info in the past or elsewhere in the community. Encourage others to search, retrieve and link info that has been valued by other members of the shroomery and praise people who do so.

Certainly, loosing access to the older threads would be a terrible loss for the community, and the referral threads can be great references.
As you said, linking to past threads is an important thing to teach and give experience. A thread a couple years old that needed to be revived, could be done at a mod or admin discretion, or simply appear as a link, in a new thread on the same subject.
I'm not really complaining, just thinking of some streamlining for the site!

Agreed! I'd much rather someone replies to a relevant year-old thread rather than starting a new one.
You just have to openly mock the people who bump for no reason.

I don't mind when people bump a thread by replying. What gets me is when people ghost-bump threads just to spam a forum.

Seriously though, I would suggest that if you know, you keep it to yourself. The last thing I want to do is sift through our logfiles to find out who went on a ghost bumping rampage and break out the ban stick

The problem is definately the links at the bottom of the page. But they can be oh so useful as well.
I don't know much about bulletin board code. But would it be at all possible to have a message box pop up and say, "The post you are replying to was made over 3 months ago on the date mm/dd/yyyy. Are you sure you want to reply?"

Could it at least be a rule that if you bump a massively old thread and don't add content to it, you get banned overnight or something? If each noob tard bumps one old-ass thread without adding anything once, then gets harassed and maybe learns, we still have to deal with a lot of tard bumping.
Failing that, I'd think that it'd be better to have something you have to actively click past rather than a printed warning that reading isn't required. It isn't working, apparently.
