me and my friend ate what looked like psilocybe cubensis, we live in texas, anyways they looked like this: the cap was white with golden brown in center, the gills were very white the stem bruised reddish-purple. We ended up eating them didnt feel sick but didnt trip, we took about 8 each over a 2 hour time period. is this psilocybe cubensis, or is it poisonous, if so tell us what it will do!!!!!!!!!!!!

Probably a species of Lepiota because of the white gills, but Agaricus is also likely. What you picked and ate was not Psilocybe cubensis, and you deserve to be beaten for your stupidity. You could have easily picked a deadly species of Amanita (which also have white gills) and both you and your friend would have been doomed to a very slow and painful death. You have been given a grace this time, but i can't stress enough how important it is for one to research before one decides to make shroom hunting a hobby. It is a dangerous hobby with potentially fatal consequences to the unprepared. If it has been more than 24 hours since you ingested the mushrooms and you have not vomited, felt muscle cramps, or exhibited bloody diarrhea (common signs of mushroom poisoning), then you are probably fine. The reddish staining of the stem further negates the possibility of a poisonous species.
If you want a proper identification, then you will need to give a proper description. Read the rules and regulations thread at the top of this forum.

hears a better description. the caps averaged at about 1.5inches in diameter, golden brown center with white surrounding it, the stems were about 2-3 inches long, they bruised reddish, smelt sweet kinda, when cleaned and sat for a little wile gills changed from white to sticky greyish. oh yea, they were growing at a cow pasture on manure.

Actually, with some lepiotas you may start feeling stomach pains a day or 2 afterwards. So you actually could still die. and u should. never eat mushrooms that havnt been identified by someone who isnt retarted.

Not a good move....
Need to think before you act sometimes.
It is very unlikely you will be finding any Cubensis this time of year in Texas.

Your lucky your not dead. Psilocybe mushrooms bruise blue not purple or red. You should deffinitly do some research before you go around eating mushrooms that 'look' magic.

The sweet smell and red staining are specific to several species of Agaricus, but those have pink gills. Are you sure the gills are white? Take a spore print.

See, if I had responded to this first, I would have told him they're very poisonous, resulting in slow painful death and that he should NEVER pick mushrooms and eat them without checking them out.
In this case, he would not have died, but spent the time until his 'death' thinking how stupid this was, resulting in NEVER doing it again.
just my 2cents..

if either of you start to feel sick, then by all means go to the hospital. and try to bring along a few specimens of the mushrooms you ate.
never eat a unidentified wild mushroom.
