Computer fans

Hey all,

I'm using a Ultra Sonic humidifier with a relatively small terrarium (22 gallon) so I really don't have to run my humidifier much at all. I have 5 3/8" holes drilled along the sides of my terrarium with a fish pump pumping air into my terrarium 24/7 to help push the old air out. I ran my humidifer for 45 minutes in the morning and now 12 hours later my humidity level is still at 95+%. I guess now the next step would be to install a computer fan into the terrarium but how do I get power to it? Wiring it to an oulet would probably fry it; maybe a 9V battery?

Any suggestions to better my setup would be appreciated.

You need a regular DC adapter ie one of this big block things you plug into the wall. They convert AC to DC. Each DC adapter has a voltage printed on it. The current that the fan will draw will be insignificant so it won't matter. I'm pretty sure the computer power supply only supplies two voltages, 12V and 5V. I'm assuming that the fans are generally 12V. You could probably get away with anything from 9-12V though.

By the way, an outlet supplies AC power, not DC. The fan consumes DC power. DC is far safer than AC for the most part so steer cleer of AC unless you know what you are doing.

Take the plug off the DC adapter and connect the wires to the fan. DO NOT allow these wires to touch, tape them with electrical tape to make sure this will not happen. If they touch the adapter will fry. I know because I've fried two because I couldn't be bothered to solder the connections.. If you smell a cookin' it'll probably be your adapter.

By plug I mean not the end that goes into the wall.

It'll run anywhere between 5v and 12v safely. I have my computer with 3 fans on it, that switch between 5v, 7v, and 12v (you get 7v by using the +12v with the 5v ground)
