can I use some already fruited (once only) casings to spawn?
    #4908189 - 11/08/05 07:42 AM (18 years, 2 months ago)

Hi. Sorry if this question has been already posted but I can't find it and since a few days I'm wondering this question...

can I turn into pieces some casings that have already fruited once and use them to make spawn?

any experiences?

Peace :mushroom2:

sure, why not?

only thing you need to worry about is latent contams
getting into your new substrate.

I'd suggest a liberal dousing of diluted h2o2 to
help fight off the potential for cross-contam.

And getting the myc from the first casing to go veg and back to colonizing instead of fruiting..

thanks for the tips, I'm going to experiment again with straw.

I'm getting a bit paranoid after 2nd flush, I don't want to contam another "virgin" casings in the fruiting chamber

I have never done cold shocking... shouldn't do it for fruiting? I want to make the micellium colonize again...

if you have the book the mushroom cultivator look up super spawning. i have done this and you wouldn't believe the speed of colonization, usually done within a week. what happens is you mycelium is use to breaking down certain things and it releases different chemical enzymes to break down each thing. well when you have it breaking down the same things all the time it's like feeding a fat kid the same thing over and over again. after a while the kid is going to get sick of it and slow down eating, so when you have your mycelium use to breaking down poo and has broken down grain in the past, it will release enzymes that are familiar with the poo for now, but will start to break down the grain at a rapid speed because it is use to the grain from before. it's like throwing a fat kid a cupcake after eating a days worth of pizza. make any sense?

as for cold shocking, i don't cold shock with the exception of dunking. i find this would trick the mycellium into fruiting which is not what you want until you have a fully colonized substrate FIRST. i would keep it nice and warm at 86 to keep the mycellium from fruiting and continue to spawn run.

cold shocking would make the myc go dormant again just by dropping the temps say if u put it in the refrig

Cubies really don't need it but it can definitely help increase pinsets when used in conjunction with your other pinning triggers ie; light, FAE and the little recognized survival trigger full colonization . What we have learned is that cold shocking with cubies is simply the change from optimal incubating temps to optimal fruiting temps but when done in the fridge we can control very aggressive substrains and have our way with them to optimize our flushes even better than nature.

I have just found info about super-spawning in the book, ready to read it
