Hi.
Do you think this casing look right?
Also I'm trying to make a bulk substrate with straw (just left in water for 24h, no pasteurization). Do you think it will go right?
Thanks in advance

casing does not look too great, i see a submerged (water covered) area on the right, and also, i think that might be classified as overlay forming, since i dont really see pins... but the left area looks alright and should do great?

I don't control the RH very well, i leave it saturated and change the air some times every day.
Casing birthed 2 days ago (i think). The surface is irregular. I watered it yesterday.

ya man 2 much water, as far as im concerned, at this stage, you mist very lightly just to keep the casing saturated enough, so that pins have enough moisture to set, and start to fruit. flooding a casing is bad because it prevents mycelial growth in the flooded portions of the casing layer... meaning that pins probably will not set in that area. and i see how you referred to misting your casing as "watering," which i hope is just your method of explaining misting, because if your actually adding water to the casing, u should have read up some more before attempting cultivation of that type. sorry to poke fun but misting is a very delicate process, and proper techniques are necessary at this stage of the process. if you contact the moderator named Hyphae, he has a link to his previous post / tek about "Getting the Most out of your casing: A PINNING strategy" which tells about how u can improve your next flush / next casing, good luck with this one, quit flooding it!

Thanks for the info. I watered the casing because it was too dry and I don't have a proper "mister" :S. Now I think it's ok; micellium continues spreading.
Regards.

damn! those are some awesome shrooms! most especialy considering how thin your substrate layer is. how deep is it, 2 inches? damn good job!

o, and n ice job with the straw. you didnt pasturize or steralize the straw? sheesh....i've heard straw contams real easy. all you did is hydrate the straw? anyway congrats on that too. no offense but when i read your first post in this thread i thought you were too much of a noob to be successful at these. it just seemed you missed too many key points. but you proved me wrong. what great success your having! and again the substrate seems so thin to be producing such large fruits. ya know what.....5 shrooms for you on these grows!

Thanks for the encouraging words
I want to experiment with bulk substrates without pasteurization. I have heard of successes of this kind and I just wanted to share it with the Shroomery.
Now that the temps here are about 75-78F the results are much better!. For the coco/verm casing I used a casing with a depth of about 1 inch or less. I hidrated it very well (directly watering) when I put it in the fruiting chamber. The total depth of the casing is 2inches.
One question... straw experiment has no casing layer... do you recommend me to dunk it? I think that it needs some hydration.
Regards.
