having trouble with songs...(how do you write yours?)

I've been a guitarist for about 3 years but I've starting using this keyboard with all different sounds on it along with my zoom mrs-802 recording thing(i can make beats on it too).
I like making chilled out sounding stuff or just weird stuff and sometimes music that sounds like it could be in a horror movie.
The problem is, i can come up with an idea like some slow mystical/Egyptian thing for example , and I'll record that idea but then thats where i get stuck , i don't know what to do after that i don't know how i can add more stuff to the song or put in some cool changes/noises/beats/whatever.Most of the time i try to change something it sounds forced.
I cant make the song progress more , there's no point in repeating the same thing over and over no matter how good the bit of music i came up with is.
The keyboard i have (casio ctk-482) isn't exactly amazing and i cant edit any sounds but i have a decent variety of sounds and i can add basic effects to the sounds using my multi-track-recorder.
So i should at least be able to come up with some alright sounding stuff , i want to make the most of the setup i have right now before i go and buy a decent synth or something.
I suppose it's some kind of electronic music I'm trying to make . Can anyone help me out? Any tips/ideas?
How do you write your music?
Thanks allot

Man I have the same problem alot of times. I'll write this kick ass riff but won't be able to put anything after it. You just have to experiment until you find something that works, as difficult as it may seem. You've also only been playing 3 years. I had this problem alot more when I had that level of experience. Now, after 7 years of playing, it doesn't come as frequently.

Alot of the time when I record a sample that I like but can't figure out what to do with I just save it and toss it to the side with a bunch of other little clips that were left unfinished, and then for the time being just not worry about it and play around with something else. If you keep doing this then eventually you'll have a little collection of clips and ideas you can go through sometime later to piece together into songs. You'd be surprised how something you recorded two weeks earlier might be just what you needed to spice up a piece you made this morning.

Get drunk. The best ideas I get when writing music come to me when Im drinking. Just listen to what youve recorded, and jam to that in your head. Give it a good listen...then play it, then record it.
In my experience....

i dont think of it as my music. it has its own identity. that would be the first step in getting yourself out of the way.... like wat you said about it sounding forced.... cuz it was.
i dont really "write" music, so to speak. i just record the noise i hear in my head already. singing is imensly helpfull....
i like to think about balance when writing. happy/sad, fast/slow. UP/DOWN..... music is dualism.
often its hard to let go of wat you think your listening to, in order for it to become something else... so youve got a riff... and it sounds a certain way... but wat follows it may change the feel dramatically. which is fine, but sometimes it can be hard to allow yourself to play something cheesy, or boring, or too this or too that... but.. thats what i was saying earlier. its about the song, and wat the song requires. not nessisarily wat you thought you were writing.
music is all about tension and release. and back and forth and in and out...
so listening to where the tension, and where the resolution lie, is really wat is about. how tense and angry are you? and how much release do you want?
and long storey short. just listen. the song is in your head somewhere. just have to turn everything else off and let it play.
da da da da..... da da da da da da, dooooah.
edit; and wat ekomstop said is definatly true. sometimes u gotta throw it aside and do something else for a while.

how about going and learning music theory? That seems to be your main problem...

just as a thought..... music theory is essentially a language, or encoding for the music itself. a way of communicating it in alot of circumstances... sort of a way of talking about the music.
but then again, frank zappa said something like, talking about music is like dancing about architecture. .. i think..
i dont think its always nessisary.
