I have had this experience often. I often forget what I am, it's confusing. I do get strong visuals with or without eyes closed. I find it stronger than DMT myself. But I have limited experience of DMT. Maybe 10 times at most.

Is it possible to balence the trip where strong visuals are the result, but some clarity of mind preserved?

semi-on-topic. A friend of mine drew a beautiful picture today of an entity that really looked like that little elf in the picture at the top of that article. Except it had 4 legs and no arms. She has never done DMT but has done mushrooms quite a few times. Which I believe influences her art.
Thought it was interesting at least :P

With salvia? No. With DMT? Yes. I didn't "break through" on DMT until my third time doing it, but I still had vivid hallucinations the other two times.

Yes with experience I have retained some of my thought process even during the full blown trip. It's tricky though. I think this plant needs much experience and is very usefull for divining. I have used it to time travel into my past. (weather in dream or reality I do not know but I sure felt like I was back in my past. More than once.) I didn't know what to do because I didn't know what I had asked. It reminds me of the early "seeing exercises" from the Castanada books. It's weird. Like falling awake into your subconscious and dreaming a meaningful dream.

Do you need a sitter or do you trip alone? Have you ever wigged out and run off or something?

I like to have a sitter. I do it alone in lower doses but I plan to go all the way by myself as I tend now to stay put.
But that first trip I described I got up and tried to run down the tunnel. Good thing there was two people to grab me or I would have run hard into a wall. I wonder what effect that would have had on my trip?

possible and likely if you can manage your dosage and administration. however how likely can you manage those things. I have my kit set up to run me to the precipice and stop but I still fall over the edge at least 20% of the time. but I kinda think of that as a good thing.
lately I also learned to exhale 1/3 then breathe in again to get even more mileage (longer holding), so hello kamakaze wheee!

Has anyone tried a high dose trip orally like under the toungue with an extract? If so what was the effect? I only used the leaf so it was low intensity.

I have. It's not nearly as intense but lasts longer. I think it would be more useful in shamanic practice with those who know her intimately.

What level of intensity can be had from an oral dose? I hate smoking stuff as it irritates my lungs.

"I have heard that one can lose mental coherancy in that state and possibly walk off a cliff or try to fly or run in front of a car. True or bullshit? "
true. all the people i know who have broken through on salvia say that doing something insane is very possible.
a girlfriend of mine took a bong rip of salvia in the woods one time, not knowing what to expect. she fell over, twitched a bit, then got up and ran away without a word. she ran straight across a road without looking or even being aware it was there.
later she said that everything turned black, except a golden path stretching out in front of her, so naturally she ran down the path...
another friend described the sensation of being trapped in a white room, all white, with no furnishings, doors of windows. then , he said "he felt like he was going to die"
another friend saw his surroundings get outlined like it was put together like a jigsaw puzzle, then the puzzle pieces exploded away, leaving him in the place beyond...
in other words, anything goes, and believing you could fly would be no stretch at all. stay indoors, in safe environs, with a sitter...

I usually take ayahuasca and then immediately go and hang out in a McDonalds. I love purging from both ends in a public restroom.
