No guys, you take the cover off when there is a goodly amount of *mycelium* covering the surface, not pins. Like I said and shroomism said. The pins should appear after the mycelium can breathe again. Some say cold-shocking accelerates this process, myself I beat down the fuzzy mass of surface mycelium with a spray bottle to curb any further mycelium growth and initiate fruiting.

my jars are about 20% colonized, and this is my casing setup (if there is flaws in this please report them) ill have 2 or 3 cased trays. i prepare the casing then let them sit somewhere dark until i see about 75% myc. covering the surface, i will then spray heavily to innitiate pinning. i will put the two trays in a large tupperware container and fan twice daily and mist the surface 2-3 times daily until harvest time. how does this sound.

Sounds good, except that perlite humidification is a better idea than misting (more reliable, constant humidity). Some would say 75% growth at the surface is too much, with a heavy initial misting though you shouldn't get the dreaded solid surface layer of mycelium.

Seems there are no original ideas left in this world. Oh well, I guess great minds think alike :)

You need to do some reading, man. 100% colonization at the surface is called "overlay" and no it's not a good thing. Perlite humidification is humidification using perlite, do a search.

after researching the perilite technique i understand it is moist perilite in the bottom of the terrarium and the treys go on top, i read that you should also spray once daily, is this correct

Fill the bottom of your grow chamber about an inch deep or less with perlite, then pour in enough water (less than 1/2 inch) to keep it wet. You'll need to add more water every now and then, but misting shouldn't be necessary if your humidity is high enough. Set your trays on a wire mesh above the perlite, not on top of the perlite itself.
