An alternative to Itunes?
    #4880899 - 11/01/05 08:42 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

I have an Ipod, and use Winblows. My problem is that I hate Itunes? Is there any other software that will allow me to upload music?

I know that most MP3 players are "software specific", meaning that you need to use their chosen software in order to move music to it and have it show up.

However, I'm not sure if the Ipod is like that. Hook it up and treat it like an external hard drive and try to emulate the file structure and see what happens.

If that fails, I'm sure some geek somewhere made some program that can do it.

And...what is wrong with Itunes?

There are various programs out there that will allow you to manage your iPod. I think RealPlayer might, but I'm not positive.

gtkPod does it, but I don't think it's available for anything other than linux.

Just try a few things in Google. There are probably sites out there about iPods that list various software available.

There's a site called ipodhacks or something that might have it, I dunno.

Google will always know.

It pisses me off that they don't support generic USB transfer standards. I bought a shitty Rio player (and yes, it sucks) just so I wouldn't have to fuck w/ proprietary software.

I just googled it and admittedly, I couldn't find it. However, a friend of mine had an ipod shuffle, and I believe there is a small text file that allows "drag and drop" capability to the ipod.

I can't verify this however as I don't own/use one.

upload music TO your ipod?

I'd say use the winamp plugin for ipods... I forget the name but it should be easy to pull up.

also; if you use itunes on a network and you mean sharings as uploading, check out OurTunes (a way to steal people's collections )

I also use mt-daapd (may only be for linux...) to announce my collection and share with coworkers
