fruiting on millet
    #488068 - 12/11/01 10:36 PM (23 years, 2 months ago)

The tek I used to grow on millet differs fom the pf.
I am leaving the cake in the jar, and letting the shrooms grow in the jar.
Do I expose the cake to light after I see pinning? Also, if a desk lamp is
about 7 inches from the fruiting cake for 12 hours, will it dry it out or
get it too hot?

Cakes will not pin unless they have light and a desk lamp 7 inches away is much too close. You only need a small amount of ambient light, just enough to read by, for a couple hours a day. More is OK. Almost anything but total darkness will work.

I find that i can nearly always induce pinning simply by taking the colonised cake out for five minutes to check it - once they pin, they need air exchange and a little water and they will fruit to some degree in the jar - although i dont recommend doing this...
