Yeah thats the problem Hippy, it can be only your very *special* friends you can give this too..... But good point and worth mentioning again - be careful who you give something like this too people!

It could draw unwanted attention to your hobby.

Yes it's a damn old post but I think it's worth mentioning that Enokie mushrooms are perfectly legal and would be appreciated by straight friends and family.
You may as well have some gourmet strains around...helps explain all the strange equipment and jars of mold lying around.

Wouldn't it be possible to give them pre sterilized everything with spore solution to completely grow their own and this way it would be legal if you know what im saying.  you'd be like a mini spore bank  or would you get in trouble for "giving" people the intent to grow?

It depends on what country you live in ...laws vary.
In "stick up the ass" places spores are illegal.
In "technicality" places spores are legal because they contain no actives till they grow.
What you're talking about is a "grow kit" that crosses the line from microscopy study to intent to produce.

the yogurt container would just be a much better gift IMO. they wouldnt have to do any of the leg work.

buying them supplies would be like buying them a gift card, you didnt put any effort into it.

I know it's old but I thought that someone should point out that not all mushrooms are illegal, It's a great idea for a gift either way (actives or edibles).
I did have second thoughts about posting it to life because of the post's age but it doesn't exactly come up every day like the "HELP MY JARS ARE STALLED!!!" posts so I thought it was worth reviving.
Something for the newbies to see...

I actually thought about making poor man's pods out of soda bottles and knocking up PF cakes for a few friends.

Then I realized that I enjoy not being in jail. Depressing.

C'est la vie, eh?

I couldn't find any rules against posting in an old thread... idk why there would be one anyway

Is that a 1kg yogurt cup? I didn't even know they sold those. That seems like a shitload of yogurt.

I plan on taking my 1/2 pint cakes and spawning to bulk in a yogurt container like this soon. Good idea? Bad idea? All I care about is 1/4 a month so this seems good. I'm currently fruiting a cake in a single cake FC, and it is a pain in the ass. I rather do this low maintenance tek and get a smaller yield then do what I am doing now...

Anyone have any similar teks on this? I am debating between a yogurt cup, a cup-o-shrooms (courtesy Citric), or any other kind of mini mini mono made of various small containers. As long as it requires less maintenance than a SGFC and yields decently.

In the future and out of retrospect, instead of 1/2 pints I will inoculate 1/4 pints and then spawn to mini bulk. 1/4 pints colonize quicker and would be a better size for mini bulks like this. I will likely have to split my cakes in half and use 1/2 of a half pint for each one...

Any container that can hold moisture and provide some fresh air exchange will do.

EDIT: If you have any tek links like this, it would be greatly appreciated and more useful then me having to ask questions that are probably already answered somewhere

That would be awesome if I could get a quarter like that. Fruiting cakes in a SGFC is not for me. Way too much hassle imo. I'm using a single cake SGFC and I hate having to get up to mist and worry about moisture content and that jazz. I know it is part of cultivating, but I rather do a couple small projects like this that I can yield around an eighth and not worry about misting as much.

half of my pilot batch I will attempt in a normal FC, the other half I will split in half and use for things like this. Whichever seems more me, I will work on perfecting and use my next batch for
