I don't think there should be a beginner forum anymore. Just a beginners quiz :grin:. Usually I'm hard headed, but you have all made good points and i feel that things are good the way they are.

MycoCat if you read the thread in WA&F you will notice that there are around 20 different, good suggestions for making this forum run smoother, and I think that this thread once again proves that things are NOT running smoothly.

Only ONE of these 20, is to split the forum. There are suggestions from the original thread which run the gambit from rewriting the FAQ's to making a video FAQ's to doing nothing at all. You should read it, and I don't blame you for not having read it. It should have stayed in the cult forum from the beginning.

Splitting the forum IMO has only gotten the most attention from the general readership because it is the best idea.

I am really starting to get sick of this mentality that by creating another forum that is more advanced than this one, that no one would help those in this forum anymore.

With that logic you are saying that the only reason anyone else helps the newer members with a question is here is because they are forced to by the fact that those questions are in there face all the time?

People are saying, - "if you don't like noob questions than simply ignore them", and then in the same breath they are saying, - "if a new forum were created it wouldn't be fair, because then everyone would ignore the noob questions." Well do we have a choice or not?

If there were another forum then someone would be forced to bone up in order to be taken seriously by the next level. Just the same way that I cannot hold my own in advanced mycology right now.

So if the beginners forum was nothing but 300 posts in a row about what shrooms will fuck me them up the fastest, so be it. At least when I have a question about agar I am not bumped in 30 seconds two page 2 because of them.

You wanna call that elitist, go right ahead.

learn to use the quick reply correctly, that is you're first step!

Then id run the idea by a mush cult moderator, and he will discuss it with the others, and they will come to a conclusion. Id help come up with questions.

I think if there is a quiz, you should be made to type in your answer and not have a multiple choice. That would keep people from just going through and guessing then coming back and just try the next.

This is what I just posted in Website Announcements. If you think there is a better solution than this, please enlighten me:

Instead of splitting the forums, we instead institute a one-time required quiz for posting. All forums could still be viewed, but a user could not post (at least in cultivation) until they exhibited the minimum required knowledge to do so. I would suggest the quiz be made up of a greater number of total questions with a smaller, random number to be asked. Something like 50 total questions, but 25 of those are randomly selected to avoid cheating or success through trial and error.

I believe this compromise should satisfy everyone that is tired of the repetitive nature of the cultivation posts or of the sometimes obvious apathy new users have towards doing their own research.

Please discuss.

Dude, you need to calm down. In this thread you have accused others of being a drama queen, and then you say this?

I hardly think that poor magash is going to collapse at his computer, starving because his "days and nights" are taken up by moving threads.

Yes, they do happen, but not nearly at the frequency you're trying to make it seem like. I'd say for the sheer number of people who visit and access this site, the number of idiots is surprisingly low.

And, as much as you keep talking about it, no one has offered a practical solution yet except me. No one will even venture a guess as to what specific criteria would govern the different forums, though I've brought it up numerous times. You can't ignore that forever.

Point Knewbies to the FAQ, for the first few dumb questions, then start turning their  threads into a flame fest.
This has always worked in the past, and i see no reason to change policies now.

Ill assume that you will assume the responsibility of grading the dozens of quizes a week? It would have to be a simple multiple choice test. Just a test that will make people answer there own question. Just easy questions like...

I am not denying it one bit. But I've since utilized my resources and haven't posted needing help in the cult forum since about 3 days after I registered. 50%+ of the noob questions in here are from people who asked either the same, or same type (info found everywhere on the site) more then once.

Sorry I'm saying "fuck helping out anymore" but shit people, I've learned everything I need to grow sucessfully in probably 10 diff ways by reading. And then reading some more. Oh, and more reading.

I have written a tek I keep in a mycology folder on my desktop that I follow. It is composed of recipes, processes, growth parameters, supplies I need, both tools and things needing replenished.

I've done this all after reading. I don't see what the fuck the problem is that some people CAN'T FUCKING READ.

I'm a highschool dropout. I've got my GED. I didn't pay one dam bit of attention in school, but I got my GED because I sat down with the textbooks provided to me and READ.

Obviously this is not an option for other people. Maybe it is, and they just choose not to. Either way, I'm done. Call it fucked up, call me selfish for learning what I needed and not passing it on.

Read my ratings. 5 shrooms all over the place for good advice and being knowledgable. If 800+ posts of advice isn't sharing what I know, (or at least enough for you) then feel free to take over.

I've tried really hard to give the best advice I can. Shortlived my presence in the cultivation forum, but I can't do it anymore.

Thanks to all of those who have taught me what I know
(Mostly: Agar, Hippiechick, FooManShroom, and anyone else I may have forgotten)

To those I have taught in return, goodluck.

Well I was attempting to use a bit of hyperbole with that Magash statement, but I would admit I get slightly pissed about this. If you honestly think that a beginners forum would be helpful to beginners as you're pitching it now, you're on crack. No one is going to help them, because if they're out of sight, they're out of mind.

However, by actively trying to teach those beginners something (like maybe making them pass a quiz proving a minimum level of knowledge) we manage to actual fix the problem rather than ignore it.

So if you think I'm being a drama queen, that's fine, but I'd like to hear some constructive arguments from your side other than bitching about having to see stupid post titles.
