Beginners Cultivation Forum

If there is a lower level cultivation forum beneath this, I don't think any of the experienced growers would have a reason to go to it.

Most people would just stay in this forum, in large part because it'd be difficult to differentiate between a beginner's question or an intermediate question. Then you'd have the creation of people getting pissed at beginners who think they're intermediate and aren't. I mean, there's a pretty clear division of knowledge between the advanced and intermediate cultivation forums, but there would be barely any between the intermediate and the beginning (at least that you could enforce, if that would even be a priority). And there would be no reason for a beginner to stay in that forum once they learned more and were able to move up, so there would be no one to answer their questions; which would invariably cause them to ask in the intermediate forum because no one would respond to them in the beginners, making the new forum irrelevant.

If you have to do a test run to prove me right, so be it. But don't count on the good will of the Shroomerites to hang out and answer beginners questions out of the goodness of their hearts. At least not for more than a couple weeks, anyway.

And when their questions don't get answered, they'll research it.

If not, they will just post in intermediate and the threads will automatically be locked...I don't see a problem?

You don't think there would be a problem with the differentiation of beginner and intermediate questions?

You tell me how you would judge which threads to be locked, unless a specific criteria is outlined at the forum stating what you can and cannot ask...

If the answer may be found in the FAQ, it's beginner. (and/or searching etc)

BUT, how do they know what forum to post it in? Well make limitations like the market place.

If the criteria is whether or not the information is present in the FAQ, then you should just change this forum to beginner and not have one in the middle, as most questioned posted here can be found in the FAQ (in one form or another).

But it's not like there is nearly enough discussion on an intermediate level here to justify having another forum. Most people asking questions have read and researched, they are just confused and don't want to mess up. A little while ago someone was really worried because all they could find was pint jars and the tek only talked about half pints. He had no idea what to do, and nowhere is that specific answer written.

It's good to have a mingling of skills because that's how people learn. If you segregate them to their own forum it's going to be discouraging more than anything, and it's not going to help them (which is what I thought this was supposed to be about).

Well I've been here for a while now... I just don't choose to post a reply to every thread I read =].

I reserve my tongue for special threads that I feel strongly about. For instance, this thread would fit my criteria.

I am not against the new users, hell I'm still considered a new user by when my account was created, and I do agree that this is a community based around helping others learn and being positive with one another. I am also not against questions which are highly debated, as that usually spurs the most responses and people get involved and post really intelligent thoughts on the particular subject. What I am against though is ANY user asking a redundant question which are clearly answered in the FAQs, which was created by the vets and others who spent their own time creating the FAQs, which took MUCH MUCH more time to create than it would to search for the answer.

I would agree, but honestly, how often does that occur? And 95% of the time everyone just ignores the post and it goes away. I would say the majority of the posts here are honest questions, and despite the fact it may be in the FAQ, there is also a lot of contradictory or confusing information in there.

I really don't like the thought of someone having to have a certain level of knowledge to ask a question...that's not how it's supposed to work.

For the sake of sanity, this has been discussed in this forum already, there's a stickied poll pertaining to this, and finally there is an open thread discussing the matter in the WA&F forum. Do we really need another gigantic thread on the topic? I don't think so.

Well I think the poll is going to bulldoze the users that obviously don't have a say in this, and just because people already talked about it doesn't mean others can't talk about it as well. I never saw the other post, and I doubt the other people responding to his did either.

So I think we should be able to at least discuss it...

EDIT: I will admit, however, I did not check the Website Announcements forum before I started this thread. Whoops.

In a way yes. But, not always.

First off - fresh newbies have little or no skills to contribute. So where exactly is the mingling?

How many kindergarten kids sit in an 8th grade class room & contribute?

How many 5th graders set in a high school class & contribute?

How many 7th graders set in a senior college class & contribute.

Sure, a very RARE few do. But - not often.

How many kindergarten kids join in contact pro sport try-outs - with adults?

How many kindergarten kids drive in the INDY 500, with qualified drivers?

How many kindergarten kids pilot space shuttles?

NONE........ZERO.........

Many many times newbie questions arise that are posed like this:

Okay, I made my casing mix (h/poo/straw/verm), what next?

THAT IS NOT A CASING MIX. It is a SUBSTRATE MIX.

I could go ON & ON with examples of those type questions.

Isn't it time the newbies learn the language, before they start talking.

This is meant to be constructive & I believe a division, so that the cultivation forums - can be - WILL.

MycoCat is right again.

People can avoid 'newbie' threads just as easily as they can avoid going to a Beginner's Forum. The downside to the Beginner's Forums is, just as MycoCat stated, none of the more experienced and knowledgable members would have any need to go there. Urgent posts made by new members would take a very long time to be answered, if answered at all by anyone knowing better than them.

I'm all for helping crawlers to walk, and walkers to run. Dividing the Shroomery even more would hinder alot of the information stream. Not to mention, it seems a bit elitist.

I agree no need for another forum. He he he....I just read that we should go by the "if it's in the faq it's a beginner question", hell if we did that we wouldn't have this forum.  :wink:

Do you really feel that brand new cultivators to the scene have much of a voice in what goes on in a situation like this? This is a choice to be made by the people, but it certainly isn't going to be made by the lower echelons of this forum. In other words, the people that don't have a say in this are being bulldozed over.

I see what you are saying and agree. Mostly in advanced cult, they don't even talk about advanced cultivation techniques. That forum should be called experimental and hypothetical cultivation and organic chemistry. I think that a pf tek forum would be useful. Just so we can separate the thirty per day OMFG ITS BEEN NINE HOURS IN THE FC AND NOTHING DID I FUCK UP??? Threads from the more serious casing and bulk conversations. Hopefully If all the pf tek questions are in one place newbs could easily review another persons Q&A
