You ever regretted learning something?
    #4872520 - 10/30/05 08:00 PM (18 years, 4 months ago)

I have.

In psychology and other places, I learned the gist that the human brain is it's most receptive by a LONG shot when it's very young. Kids can pick up like 4 languages fluently if they start early. Children that start on music early tend to have a deep understanding of it compared to those that don't. Their brains are like sponges, unaffected by things like doubt or bias because what do they know? They take it objectively (more so..I know they are still human) and they benefit.

It kind of makes me feel old and past my prime and I'm only 20, and I know that's false but I can't shake it.

It's because we get conditioned and brainwashed by society the older we get.

You don't have to buy into it. Don't have to play by their rules.

Stay young. Be a kid at heart.

The only things I have regretted 'learning' are false teachings.

I took a lot of video production classes in high school and ever since I cannot stop thinking about how a certain scene was shot in a movie or TV show, how the cameras were set up, what kind of different shots they did, etc. I've gotten used to my mind doing it.

Of course it's always good to learn, but like Slipknot said, it sucks when it makes you unhappy or confused or specifically discouraged.

I also can't listen to a DJ set anymore without picking it apart  But I find it's way more entertaining that way.

Yeah some things can suck to learn. But then you're like.. in the know man.. and that's cool. Even if you think it sucks at the time.

The more you know.. the more you can think, or something..  :muppet:

I hate learning how messed up in the head women are.  I don't think I'll ever learn that lesson through and through.  Because I'm continually hopeful that the girl I meet is not crazy, but then, time and time again, I learn that she is, just like all of em.  :mad2:

Seriously, what the hell is wrong with you women???

Its a painful lesson.  One that I hope I will eventually learn.

yea I did, I learned more into detail about how to run a computer, but I am not applying it because it is too much for my brain.. I am going to get into something else for school, when I actually can afford to go back sometime.
but it was expensive learning, I could apply it in life but I would have to go get the whole degree before i can apply it for something worth while in life. I was confused on a lot of things, programming would be a pain in the ass for me, I could figure it out but it is just too much.
I want to become a a bartender and get into more professional cooking or something related, that I enjoy doing.

Now that I know how art is made, I will pick apart poetry, music, paintings etc.. and try to get into the artist's head instead of just appreciating it. It's really quite annoying.

When I learned Santa Claus wasn't real it was all down hill from there.

Actually.. theres more biology behind it than anything.. as my understanding of it is, not long after puberty your brain starts to change its physical composition.. coating often used and important nerves with thicker sheaths of mylin(think of it as the plastic on the outside of electrical wires), allowing them to function more quickly.. so that you can become more efficient at the things you've learned. The flipside of this is that the brain starts placing less importance on building actual new nerve connections. (theres only so much physical space inside your head) by the time you're about 25 things level off, and your brain will actually contain a significantly greater ratio of mylin to nerve tissue, than when you were 16.

It doesn't mean that once you're 25, you can't learn new things.. it just means that it will be more difficult, and require more effort to do so, however, the older you are, the more displined and focused you tend to be.. so this can counteract the physically limiting factor in learning new things.

Thats my take on it all, anyways.

Women have a secret society where we meet and share all our crazy tips. We're hellbent monsters on tearing every relationship apart...its just what we are made to do.  :smirk:

freddurgan- I understand What you're saying, the inability to retain information as wonderfully effecient as you can in your earliest stages of development is a real depressing notion.  Like you past your mental prime by the time you're getting out of grade school.  But, the good part about knowing it now, is that with enough work, you can really teach some kids valuable things.  Thats why I love babysitting, it gives me a great opportunity help teach kids new things, and in those opportunities where they will listen, its so great to see it stick
