I dont think its going to work. Oven bags would work best, but you really should go for autoclave bags.

Definitely agree with that Scatman. Ziploc bags will not have the pliability of oven or autoclave bags. It's not just about the thickness of the bag, it's the manufacturing. There are too many seams in a Ziploc bag, which means too many opportunities for the bag to split open.

yeah, im just tryig to find an easy alternative. i dont need 1000 bags/dont have $100, and oven bags are too flimsy and tear easily. doesnt sound like anyone has tried it though... ill go ahead and try, maybe double bag, and maybe ill be a hero.

Take one for the team Omni! I'd love to use ziplocks but hate the smell of burning plastic, try it out, let us know...

Oven bags are flimsier but they will hold up to heat higher. I have done it with ovenbags numerous times, boiling and pressure cooking them. Ziplocks may work at boiling, but ovenbags will for SURE, thats why I suggest them..if you dont mind possible mess, then give the ziplocks a shot I guess.

Mofo Bag tek...pretty cool.
If you're looking for a substitute and you have one of those Food Saver system like Seal-a-Meal, you could use that and make your own autoclave bags.
