How's this cake look?
    #486397 - 12/10/01 07:09 PM (22 years, 4 days ago)

This is a cake, about 5 days old. It seems to be growing really quick, which is good. It's equadorian PC. Just curious 'cause the mycelium is really light (making it look kinda grey), and transparent (it's new, so maybe it's just not thick yet.. I donno).. What do you think? Not a great pic, but yah.

Hard to tell with that pic, but it looks like a lot for 5 days. Is it spores or liquid innoc? And how much did you inject?
It looks like too much too soon, which makes me think of the "holy shit look how fast mine is going" experience that turned out to be "well, it appears mold grows much faster..."

Looks like cobweb mold to me, especially if after only five days. But hell, i'm just another grower, anyone else concur?

Peace

Hate to say it, but that doesn't look like mycelium to me.

Looks like cobweb mold.....

What happens if you grow 'shrooms from cobweb mold and eat them? Do you die, get sick, or have fun?

I agree. At first I thought that something was wrong with the jar and then I realized that it's only been 5 days!!

Your not going to produce 'shrooms from jars covered with cobmold. The gray mold FEEDS on the mycelum(sp!).

When mold becomes thick and 30-40 little, very little, pin heads come out, is that a sign of a 'working' cake?

Ah yea... I think that example would be a "go" Mavrick127. Be sure and birth the jars before that time.

No shit Mark only 5 days old!! It's my first time growing EQ's, innoculated them 8 days ago and not a damb thing.
I wouldn't feel to bad you seem to be having better luck than me.

Good Luck, keep us posted

that one for sure was the most "active" others were a bit less busy, but they looked similar. I used a spore syringe, but a cloudy cloudy cloudy one. would cob web mold grow before mycelium?

Is it growing at innoculation points ?
Where did you get the syringe?

I think it is perfectly ok. My equador jars looked exactly like that when they germinated. I had used a nice dark syringe and I had massive germination. More than 50% was immediately colonized. In a couple of days the mycelium will turn more white. Mine also looked almost grayish at first and I felt a little panic. Within the next two days it should become obvious that it is mycelium.Keep us posted but I think you are fine. They actually look good.Best of luck to you.
Leave it alone. Isolate it if you are concerned, but it looks good.

thats cobweb mold. if you dont believe it just wait another 3 days till your jar is 'fully colonized' and try to birth it. you wont see any pins because that is a mold not a fungus. mold will never pin or fruit. try; try again

It is ok its a very healthy start due to over innoculation (perhapse 2cc instead of 1/4 cc) it will speed colonization beacuse the spore water infultrates a greater area....but this "tek" has limitations as you do not want to completely waterlog your substrate....what you are observing is not mold in my opinion......keep it for the time being....whats 1 jar....im sure you'll be happy you did!

I'm not ruleing cobweb mold out due to the fact that five days usally isnt enough time for a jar inoculated with spores to mature as far as it apears. I'm leaning to it being a healthy jar, but ya cant really tell with this pic. We need another pic to know for sure whats up. If it's cobweb mold I bet the entire jar is covered by now.
