I really like boards of canada. A few weeks ago someone had a link to the entire cd, dl/ed it and was good. Though I felt a little guilty.

there sounds is atmospehric, sometimes psychadelic with nice drum patterns, often throwing in a blend of psychotic samples. all songs must be heard in a lifted level to truly appreciate this type of music. i usually listen to their albums to get my creative mind flowing when i do photography. check out some of my work.

I'm not sure how to label their music, or if it's even possible. *Psychedelic sci-fi folktronica, maybe?
"We're not an IDM band and not an electronic band, we're just a band."
As to their latest release, The Campfire Headphase, you can find a fine collection of reviews here.
And, if you ask me, they are really f^(%!ng good.

/BoC rant
I first heard about Boards of Canada a couple of months after they released Geogaddi. I first started with Music Has the Right to Children. Gave it a couple of spins and forgot about them, didn't really care. I mean - "They're alright, but there's so much alright music out there", you know. Man was I wrong. I only rediscovered them last spring. Started really getting into them during the summer. And now Boards of Canada is pretty much my music of choice, not that I don't listen to anything else. I have always been a big fan of Bj?rk, Stereolab, and The Beatles, but they were sitting untouched in my personal musical Pantheon for years. Well, Boards of Canada have made it up there. I'm only sorry I didn't discover them earlier.
Maybe you remember when the researchers from Dutch TNO laboratories produced that 2.5 gigapixel digital panoramic photo which is probably still the largest in the world? I'd say Boards of Canada can do the same with sound. Not the best way to put it, but whatever. People have spent years dissecting their songs with their Soundforges and Audacities. Sometimes I think to myself that Michael and Marcus probably have some kind of weird hi-tech rig nicked from an alien spacecraft with which they can transform sound into a colourful plasticine-like material, sculpt with it, and then convert it back to soundwaves. No wonder why Marcus has that complicated solar alarm system installed in his house.
Very deep music one can really wander in. They also sound more live, and are not as harsh and mechanical as a lot of other electronic music I've heard. They also have a bit of that acid folk vibe/attitude.
I truly respect Sandison brothers for their work
To somebody who has never heard anything from Boards of Canada, I'd recommend to start with Music Has the Right to Children, move on to Geogaddi via In a Beautiful Place Out in the Country, don't forget Boc Maxima, Twoism and Hi Scores, after which you'll probably want to check out their Few Old Tunes compilations, all the way to The Campfire Headphase. And yes, Boards of Canada make an amazing combo with psychedelics, sometimes it can get even too intense, haha.

The funny thing about boards, I can accidentally play the same song twice in a row and not really notice.

I went through a serious BoC kick a couple years back. I spent literally hours at a time sitting in my room, smoking pot, and spacing out to Geogaddi, Music has the Right to Children, or In a Beautiful Place.
I haven't listened to them much lately, but they'll always hold a special place in my heart.
I can't wait to hear The Campfire Headphase.

Yeah, it's cool how they sometimes leave their music for us to "finish". Telephasic Workshop is probably the first Boards of Canada track I ever heard. You know when those crazy sampled voices come in around 3 minutes into it? Something like "youyou you know, you knowwhat you know knoknowledge knowledge and tradition it's veryery small" etc. Nice little apophenic provocation from the Boards. Every time when listening to this song, my brain fries trying to perceive connections, subconsciously looking for patterns and meaningfulness in it. Which results in a different song every time, haha.

You're Canadian, so you probably know what Ataronchronon is. I didn't.
Ataronchronon
The Ataronchronon or "people of the marshes" were one of the nations in the Wendat (Huron) Confederacy. The Wendat are an Iroquoian people in language and culture whose original homeland is Wendake, near Georgian Bay of Lake Huron.

I have always been a big fan of...Stereolab
Man, i dont know to many people who know who stereolab is. Its nice to meet another fan, dots and loops was my comedown album. I used to put that album on repeat along with the psychedelic screen saver and float for a few hours in bliss before i passed out. Are they stoll making music? I know one of the members was killed in an accident.

Yeah, I often wonder why don't more people listen to Stereolab. Dots and Loops is one of my favourites as well. Stereolab are still live and grooving, they've released two LP's since Hansen's tragic death in 2002 - Margerine Eclipse and Oscillons from the Anti-Sun. Good stuff, but I miss Mary's vocals

This is one of my favourite tracks from Margerine Eclipse.
Need to Be
Which in english would be:
It's this temptation To be completely absorbed, To stop bothering about the length of our life It's this fear of living, of carrying on This fear of meeting our own end It's this temptation To deny the present, Precisely because the present is imperceptible Hiding our faces rather than being clear, Refusing to embrace our state of loneliness
My tree is in bloom but it is still very cold outside
One awaits its fruits the nurturers that make us beautiful and strong
The tree is like my life Sometimes morose Sometimes colourful
I am seated under the tree in bloom, Deep in the shade Of light, of happiness
