Chemistry says "use petri dishes", experience says "1/2 pints also works", you choose.
All the stuff is sterilized at once and together, agar is very triky for beginners, yes use a PC.

I found 1/2 pints to be difficult to work with compared with petris. Smaller surface area, and the sides of the jars obstructed a clear view of the growing mycelium. Possible contaminants were harder to SEE. But in the end they did work, and I got clean transfers. But I did transfer to petris. I would only use the jars in an emergency situation, but this is certainly my prejudice, and both do work.
