Poboy - it seems there are two mushrooms that look somewhat similar that are both called pompoms - is yours tooth-like ending in points like icicles or does each bit end like little flowers opening - like fingers ?

don't forget
comb tooth
goats beard

I used to grow between 60- and 120 pounds of this per week.
hericium erinaceus
largest I ever grew on six pounds of substrate was three pounds. something must have screwed up or the bag must have been heavy. because that seems to be an unrealistic BE.

if you put an elastic around the bag just above the substrate level. so that the exposed substarte had about a two inch circle. it will fruit nicely invitro. roughly 21 days start to finish.. moisture content is very important though. it can very easily rot inside the bag.. there are few things that smell worse than rotting bears head.

cheers norm

comb tooth and bear's head and lion's mane are all different mushrooms in the hericium sp.

comb tooth is hericium ramosum
bear's head is hericium corraloides
lion's mane is hericium erinaceus - the only one that is usually grown

Very nice, lion's mane is one of my favorites also. We usually fry them in oil until they start to brown then sear 'em with butter. Shiitake and lion's mane cooked together is my favorite combination, they compliment each other very well.

The hedgehog mushroom is a completely different species, hydnum repandum.
