I just went to birth the 1st of my PF cakes which was fully colonised (25 days) and it has a light blue colour spread over a good portion of the cake. Is it doomed/fcked/ or is it super-potent? (sorry no pic possible today)

I did move house yesterday so bruising could be a posiibility. It seems almost dry where the bluey parts are so maybe the myc has been pressed flat and bruising resulted. It smells nice - earthy smell but then mold doesn't really smell does it? Have put it in for a dunking so will see what happens.

just a heads up that if you suspect contams it's a bad idea to take a whiff of them. Unless you're doing it through a pretty high-grade respirator mask, but then you wouldnt smell it anyhow.
Mold spores can be quite bad for your lungs, and if a contam is bacteria well you get the idea.

easy... Go to the advanced forum then. You gotta be new sometime. Even the greatest growers here didnt know what the hell they were doing at one point in time.

The amount of bluing does not indicate potency. When the cell walls break the psilocin oxidizes. Of course, if there were none it wouldn't bruise blue, but amount of bluing only indicates the damaged sustained to the cake/mushroom.
(Whoever posted this information in a post about freezing mushrooms, thanks for the info, Read it last night and already repeated a few times, useful stuff!!)

Relax dude, we all started somewhere - I think there are just a lot more people starting to take up this hobby, therefore a lot more questions.
But I agree with you - I studied the site for years before I ever started posting on the boards, and newbies to the hobby should do a little mroe reading before posting stupid questions.... they might just learn something.....

indeed. i first tried to groom shroomies w/o the shroomery, and failed miserably. then i found it through a search on the net. read through everything i could find, then tried the brf method. failed miserably, came back reread, adjusted, and tried again. didnt completely fail, but wouldnt say a huge success. its only after about 2 years did i finally make a name and post on the boards, cuz i feel like i can atleast contribute something now. it does seem like now though a lot of people are registering and without even looking at the faqs making threads about what the best grow method is, or most potent strain etc etc. haha they should make some sort of quiz for you to be able to register for a name, that way only people who have some sort of an idea of whats going on in the myco world could be able to post.
