Almost a week! w/pics (update)
    #4842935 - 10/23/05 07:42 PM (18 years, 3 months ago)

Well guys things are going great. I fixed my TiT. This problem was that I was turning the dial the wrong way. So actually I was turning it up instead of down. The way they put the markings on there it looked like I was turning it down.

On another note it has been almost a week since I knocked up my jars. I took a picture of jar number 10. I took a pic of both sides so you can see how much is colonized. This cake is the most colonized but the others aren't far behind.

Side 1

Side 2

I turned them upside down tonight because the bottoms are taking the longest to colonize.

So how does this jar look to you guys?
How Much longer do you think till I can birth these babies?

I am hoping that I can by next weekend so then by the weekend after I get to harvest. Hurray. Oh yeah and so far no contams. So it looks like I might have 10 out of 10 jars. Thanks for the help guys!

UPDATE: I took those pics above last night. That was about 13 hours ago. I checked on them a few min ago and I see no noticible growth.

Is this normal? Do the cakes slow down some times? I was hoping to birth them this coming weekend I hope they still finish.

that's quite a bit for 1 week. I'd say your guess of next weekend is good. Are you birthing them as cakes, or casing/spawning?

I am going to do cakes and a casing. My FC can only hold about 8 cakes at the most and if I have all 10 then I can't fit them all but I could fit about 6 cakes and small casing so that is waht I am going to do. I only have verm so I am going to make my casing out of just verm and then I am going to dunk and roll the cakes. I would go buy some cocoa coir but I have no money.

straight verm isn't bad. If you use anything else, most often you have to add a PH buffer.

When you say your FC will only hold 6 cakes and a casing, I'm assuming you're taking into account perlite works best with maximum surface area (I thought I remember reading in a earlier post of you using perlite)

yeah I think i might put the casing on a rack or something. I haven't quite figured it out yet. If worse comes to worse I'll make a poor man's terrarium and that should do me for a couple of cakes.

I was expecting to loose a few jars to contams, but so far it doesn't look like it is going to happen. Don't get me wrong though I'm not complaining. LOL!!

IF for someone reason they don't (make sure before you hack at them)...you could take colonized parts and spawn that to other jars so your time and resources are going to waste.

Good News!! My cakes are growing again. Turning them upside down must of slowed growth for a little while. Maybe it took a while for al of the CO2 to escape. But now they are growing at full speed again. I check a little bit ago and the bottoms are about a quarter of the way done. It looks like I will be able to stay on schedule. Hurray!!

I will probably start getting my FC ready in the near future. It shouldn't be too hard. A few ?s though about my FC. How often do I have to fan? Also do I need to spray the walls if I am using a perlite based system? I am going to go with 12/12 of light. I have just a regular lamp/with a 40w blue spectrum bulb in it. So it should work good. After this grow I am going to try to make it fully automated.

If you don't see a little bit of condensation on the walls of your FC, then your humidity isn't high enough. Mist lightly on the walls if so, and be sure not to get your mushies wet. As for fanning, some people fan once a day, and others 5 times a day. I'd say 3-4 for a minute or two each time. If you really want to get good air exchange, cut some holes in your FC (top and bottom) and stuff with polyfill. You'll still need to fan for air current, but it'll help indeed.

Watch out with a 40W bulb (if it's inside your FC) so it doesn't raise temps to high for optimum.

Glad to hear your jars are going again. Co2 was in fact your problem.

Jarrod~

I am not going to have the light in my FC. It is sitting on top of it with a clear lid. If this grow is successful I am going to to all casings next time with an LC. After that grow I am probably going to build a Martha because I want to grow on a little bit bigger scale. But we'll see what happens between now and then.
