Clear lid allows light from top only and mushrooms don't get all crazy on me growing every which way because of light from every directions. Also don't have to worry about pinning below casing layer.

It is also harder to spot what is inside a container if it has non-transparent sides.

non-transparent for cakes or casings, always with the light coming in from the top. this will keep all your shrooms at attention. if you have a tub that is opaque and you are still getting shrooms growing in all different directions then the tub is allowing light through its sides, regardless of it being non-transparent light can still show through somewhat. I have resorted to spraying all my tubs with some rubberized undercoating, stays plyable and no light penetrates through.

keep in mind that whatever you use, if you have a bottom layer of perlite light will reflect off of it. usually only applies for cakes.
