Azurescens and cardboard.

Is cardboard a required step for an indoor cultivation of azurescens?
I noticed abert's TEK does not even mention cardboard. I assumed he skipped this part only because he was not worried about contams in his grain substrate. But I'm not so sure now.

It's not mandatory, but it gives a nice transition to the the mycelium as it jumps from the grains to the wood chips.

if you used sawdust in a jar, could you grow azurescens in vitro?

you do not need mycelium before cardboard
the spores will do quite well on soaked and sterilized carboard

in fact if you make an agar plate and put a square of carboard in the middle, and inoculate the carboard first, the cardboard will effectivly eliminate almost all contaminates, and the azures will then grow onto the agar..
works with alot of wood lovers, i've cleaned alot of prints this way
