they should probably be alright in that set-up. however you should make sure that they are almost 100% free of moisture before putting them away. perhaps you should read up on the freon storage method posted here at the shroomery...check it out...

If you really value your potency. I suggest you grind them up and pack them into gelcaps. There really is no better way then doing this because there is virtually zero oxygen in a well packed gelcap. With my experience 6 months later they were still very strong. At a similar time to then I also ate 5g of dried mushrooms that were stored in a plastic bag, whereas the gelcaps worked well, the bag ones did not do a single thing. Food for thought. (I didn't wrap the bag ones very well but I still believe that you'll have a better time with the gelcaps because they will be better preserved and easier to get down :)

Yeah I cap them too - one previous time I gel-capped some immediately and whole-dried the rest, both kept airtight in dessicant.... and the capped ones suffered no loss of potency, whereas the whole ones had lost some of their strength, even though crisp dry & kept in darkness...gel-capping for ever from now on.....

If you dry them completely and keep them in canning jars in a dark place they will last well over a year without losing noticable potency...promise.......

in my experience the best way to preserve them is to make tea with a lot off Vitamin c in it and freeze the tea...best done with fresh mushrooms and some strong Alkohol.. you could even put co2 in the water..because the vitamin C in an anti-Oxidant and there is nearly no air in the water, te magic preserves very very long.. but I wouldn't do thatz with dry shrooms, but if you have freash shrooms and want to consume them a few month or years later frozen tea is the way to go

What is the machine called which packs gelcaps, and where can you get one? How many grams of shroom will fit into a "00" size capsule? I think packing, say 100 capsules with 4g of powdered mush in each and storing them in a big "Vitamin C" jar would be a very nifty idea indeed. Good long-term storage, easy to consume and very inconspicuous. I wonder how long gelcapped shrooms would stay potent if you kept them at room temperature or in the fridge?

Newt - Grow with your parents there! Have a friend write a lab assignment for a science class, and bring it home to mom along with the supplies (Make sure you have your syringes ordered and everything) Be sure to be specific about it, and tell her they are some fuckin common mushroom that your teacher is giving, and the results will need a sample and lab report about the growing process. Just grow them, and they'll think you are doing some school shit. They'll be astonished at how you are keeping up with a school assignment. And you will be forever grateful to your shroom friends. Go fer it man! BTW IMHIGH

Tell ya what Wind. If you can fit four grams of dried and ground shrooms in one 00 gel cap, I'll eat a ball of crap. Half gram per cap. Leaf

How long do shrooms usually last? If i just bought some today, would they last for another 2 weeks? Do they go bad or lose potency? Would they become poisonous and kill you? any side effects?

Yes they'll last 2 weeks. No they shouldn't ever become poisonous if they're dry.
