It can be used in 2 ways for introducing air/bubbling a LC. Hippie shows a air pump pumping through the polyfil. If you stuck another syringe in you could suck air out, drawing air in through the port, this could be with your mouth or a vacuum cleaner with some sort of attachment (may be a bit noisy!). If using your mouth I would prefer sucking air out, rather than blowing in through the filter. Also you could soak the syringe with polyfil in alcohol and store in a bag while not in use.
The real bonus I see is no need for a filter on your LC jar. So you have the best of both worlds. You can shake it well to aerate and introduce fresh air every few days and shake it again to aerate and split up the myc. Agar had a similar solution but it had tubes attached which was a bit more tricky to source and build.
I had a more complicated design here http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=Forum2&Number=4235588
They can also be used for PFjars, you can fully silicone the innoc holes on the lid and screw it down tight and introduce fresh air every few days

Agars jars work well but if you have say 20 jars on the go then you need 20 caps to be built. Using filtered syringes you simply poke 2 holes in each cap and but a blob of silicone on them. Then use just the one filtered syringe. I put bleach in my syringe and squirt it through the filter before putting it in my jar.

Yes, I was talking to you about the apple juice at mycotpia. You can easily put a needle in the perforated hole on the tetra pack. Juice is usually 10-12% sugar so add 2 parts water to one juice, though weak LCs work fine too. Some sports drinks are now 3-5% sugars instead of the usual 10-12%. Lately I have been working in a/c bags as a cheap glove box. If you made a jar of 50/50 water/honey and heated it up it will be fluid enough to pour into a large bottle of water in a glovebox.
If working with vacuum just make sure you dont lose your whole syringe when you inject.
I do most of my sterilizing in another house, so transporting LCs used to be a big problem for me, it does solve it.
I have had great success adding large amounts of LC to grains and have some projects I will be working on soon that need a lot of LC.
