ok here goes
a bout a month ago i bought a realy shitty mush kit that came with no aquarium or nothing
in the instructions they say to grow the mush in a large plastic bag.....i found this 2 be really stupid and plus i ripped the bag trying 2 open it
so i got a stryofoam cooler
I cover the bottom with about an inch ov perlite...added water
then i crumbled six cakes into marble sized pieces onto the perlite. Then for the final layer i covered the cakes with a soil mixture that came with the kit simply called "casing"
my question is when should i cut the top of my cooler of and cover it with plexi glassto let light in?
should i do it now or wait until the mycelium starts 2 show on the top layer?
n e replys are greatly appreciated

funny that you mention a "mush kit" that was designed to grow in a plastic bag. Heehhe, did it happen to have the spores on a cotton swab too?

Let's see, my first experience was about a month ago, i found some shroom kit at a local head shop. Supposed to be a bag of substrate mix and spores that came on a cotton swab, that you put into the bag and shook. Well, turned out they were out of grow kits, but they did have the swab.

So i decided to just get the spore swab for $20.00 and try to make a syringe w/ it. Well, here i am about a month later (after i bought it, innoculation was about 25 days ago or so) and have 3 jars growing well. =)

btw, how did you get cakes? you mention that you went from a ripped plastic bag to crumbling cakes. lost me there.
