Water ratio for WBS... is this right?

I recently got some WBS, and wanted to find out the water retaining capacity so that I could mix it in bags, without the mess of simmering of soaking.. I simmered 200 grams of grain until about 5% of the kernels had popped, strained, and let drain/dry for an hour... then, ensuring no kernels were lost in the straining process, reweighed the grain to find it weighed 362 grams.. and so had absorbed 162 grams of water... this was a LOT more then I was expecting, as I understood the ratios to be more like 3:1.. WBS:water, while what I have here is 5:4... could someone help me out here? The grain looks to be the perfect consistency.. but it seems like it absorbed an awful lot of water.

haven't tested out the bag, but 3:1 seemed like not enough moisture. measurements will also vary according to ratios of grain. sorry i dont have more info.

It did. But, not a lot more then it should of , if WBS is like Rye. The moisture content of Rye is 11% . Millet is 13% . Pretty close.

It takes 600 ml Rye and between 400-460 ml water to do a 1/2 gallon jar of Rye. You used 200 grams WBS. We can just use the ratio and multiply your results by 3. You say it absorbed 162 grams of water. x 3 = 486 . 460 is the high end of the water . It's a lot , but still close. Depends on the moisture content of the WBS when you started. It's a lot , but you're not soaking or simmering either.

5:4 sounds right on, i dont know where you read 3:1. when im using WBS, i fill the jars half full. and after im done simmering/PCing they are close to full. you could say about 9/10 full. seems to work fine.
