Agar

Does anyone know if the mycelium on an agar plate is normally thin and wispy, barely visible? This is usually what mine looks like, in fact I thought it was contamination at first but the plate actually grew a mushroom on it. Any thoughts or comments?

It very much depends on the species.
P. cubensis mycelium is usually bright whtce, linear to rhyzomorph and relatively thick.

1st off, thanks for responding. The strands are thick and rhizomorphic on the actual substrate cake, but on the agar it was think and wispy. I'm assuming it might be the agar. I was using Bob's MEA from the MushroomPeople, but I think I'm going to concoct some homemade PDA next time and see if the results are different.
