there are actually 3 types: -bolted -glued -neck trough the last 2 I mentioned have a longer sustain. look at the back of the guitar where the neck is attached to the body. if it looks like there are bolts that attach the neck to the body it's bolted. if it's glued or neck-trough you won't see bolts there. There aren't many guitars that are neck trough I think so if not bolted it's probably glued.

both bolted and glued guitars can be good, it doesn't tell if a guitar is good or not just by the way the neck is attached to the body

A bolt neck is very good, if you have some moderate/severe problems with the neck. This is because you can remove the neck and make adjustments without damaging the body (scratches chips ect.) and if things go terribly wrong and you cant do anything about the neck you can replace it with a new neck, possibly a better one. Set necks are harder to work on because the neck is glued in, and it is much harder and more expensive to replace it. With a neckthrough guitar the neck and body are one solid piece of wood (the sides of the guitar are glued to the neck/body piece) If the damage is too extensive the guitar is nearly impossible to repair and the whole guitar will have to be replaced. But each one has different levels of sustain.
