Humidifier Help!!

Well I decided to give up perilite "nasty and messy" and Ive decided to go the VicKs CoolMist route. Anybody have any suggestions on how to get the Humidity over 86%. I have my coolmist hooked up to a 33 gal. tote with weather seal around the rim and duct tape to keep it tight. Ive got it hooked up with a five foot garden hose....frustration...

perhaps you should take off the little black cap on the water intake, inside the humidifier. That supposedly should increase the humidity output. Other than that, I see know problem with 86% humidity.

shouldn't humidity be at 95%-100% for cakes?

Well if you're doing cakes, you need humidity at about 95%, so I'd do what Johnnyshaggs recommended. If that doesnt work, you should hook up a fish tank bubbler into a cup of water and hydrogen peroxide..that should up the humidity about 10%. Maybe try shortening the length of garden hose a foot or two, though that might not do much. Make sure the hole is sealed well.
If you are doing casings...86% is fine

Where is thi magic little black cap in the water intake. Took off the pickup tube and everything and cant locate it.

Mine connects at the very bottom of the intake tube. Right where it goes into the water. It might not be black on yours, or your model may not have it at all. It is shaped like half of a spool of thread or like this _____

Shortening the hose may help as well, a little bit does often go along way. Perhaps making the exit hole in your terrarium smaller, if you have one, if not make a small hole in it to accomodate the pressure coming in and releiving back pressure to allow more air to flow into the terr. via the tube. you can tape the hole up when the humidifier isn't on, to keep the humidity up.
