stuck in time

So about three weeks ago I posted that my cakes have stopped doing anything. This is my first time and I've been following the PK tek. Got everything going just fine, and used spore syrnges from Hawkeye. The cakes colonized fine and the white spread throughout the cake, but then they seemed to stall. It had been several weeks where the cakes were completely covered and the cakes were actually a little lumpy, but it seemed past due for mushrooms to appear so I could birth them. Several posters suggested that they need air, so I removed the tape and loosend the jars tops. It has been three weeks since I've done that and still no change. The cakes don't look dryed out. There is moisture on the sides of the jars. Could it be temp? They are in my basement and it is somewhat cool down there now, in the low 60's. Are my cakes toast? Should I just birth them anyway? Please help...I'm getting very frustrated for my mushroom magic! Thanks...

Birth them or case them. The cakes are probably dry. If you birth them I would put them directly on top of perlite. Also try to raise the temp in your terranium. I'm no expert just my opinion.

I agree with dedhead. ' most likely dry. If you choose not to birth them yet, raise the temps to at least 82 degress F.

So the cakes can be birthed eventhough there is no pining? Do you think they've stopped because they are dried out eventhough I see moisture on the inside of the jars?

Yes you can birth before there is no pinning. I usually birth about a week after the cakes are 100% colonized if they have pins or not. I have had great sucess with this. I think the lower co2 levels, light, and the humidiy levels (in the terranium) help to initiate pinning. Yes I think they've stopped because they are dried out. Not totally but enough to stall. The moisture on the side of jars can be caused by moisture leaving the cake and condensing on the jars.
