jars ready?
    #479971 -

I've heard all kinds of answers for "When to take substrate/myc. from jars?". So really, when do you?

Waiting a week after full colonization lets the mycelium network become more established, and also usually starts pinning inside the jar so when you take it out it is already in fruiting stage.

I've taken them out the minute the surface area was covered, and I've taken them out anywhere from 1-3 weeks after colonization. So far, I haven't seen any difference in the rate of contamination from one to the other. Mine have only fallen victim to contams after they had at least 3 flushes, usually 4. But, the jars that were left longer pinned quicker and looked healthier on their birthday. While I haven't tracked which jar is which throughout their flushes, I have had better first flushes from the healthier jars that were allowed extra time before birth. ymmv

I don't really know anyone who grows mushrooms. I just come here for fun.
