    #473476 - 11/29/01 11:19 AM (22 years, 4 months ago)

The bed was 1ft. deap and made in April of freshley shredded Maple wood (Acer rubrum) that was pasturized.
The spawn was hardwood sawdust/Wheat Grain (4 to 1).
The bed was covered with a 1/2 inches of Soil, then covered with Wheat Straw 1 ft. thich.
NO CARE WAS GIVEN TO THE BED TILL OCTOBER.
The Wheat Straw was removed befor fruiting occured.

Better than most the cyan patches I've seen, most the time I only see a few pins, you've actually got a nice cluster going on there :)

I love your outdoor bed technique, so simple yet effective. I really like the wheat straw layer you seem to add to all your outdoor patches. It seems you just use it to help speed and protect colonization and then remove it for fruiting. Seems it would really help keep the humidity up during dry spells. I'm defintiely going to give it a try.

BTW: I'm sorry for never getting back to you on those prints, but I would still love for you to give that new species of mine a try(I think its probably Ps. mammillata) Anyways, I'm going to create a bew hushmail account just for this purpose, I'd really like to see what you could do with this species.

Beautiful pics, excellent blue thumb you got going on there!! :)

Take care,

LK,

Lizzard King
Simple and effective that's what I like. There were five beds azurescens, bohemica, cyanescens, subaeruginosa, and weilii. Azurescens died due to lack of rain. Subaeruginosa fruited, but not very well due to wrong medium type. All were from multi-spore (so the beds contained many indiviuals). The wheat straw is a must for those of us who have to put up with dry periods. Also, I like to recommend plastic coverings. Pinhead set is improved as well as the size of the fruit bodies. The only drawback is no spores get into the environment. Just take it off when it rains, put it on when it starts to get dry.
I would like to get new species of yours. It looks very interesting and it's also possible it's a sclerotia former. Can you send me some spores and a dried specimen and I'll put the gill fragments in some KOH and put it under the microscope to see what I think. Here's a pic of another new species from your area. Notice it is forming a sclerotia on the casting and several fruit bodies are growing from it. Send me a personal message, that is before they start radiating the mail. Peace.

Sorry, no pics. I'm located in the Southern U.S.A. It was just one fruit body. Wasn't even sure what it was until I picked it and it turned really dark blue. I was able to get a print from it and I have the dried specimen. When it was dried it was almost black. I'm going to try a new medium. Any info on its habit would be appreciated.

Wow, nice going aaron! Nice big clusters ya got there. Those gills sure look clean considering how big they already are.

What area are the spores from originally?
