casing questions
    #479465 - 12/04/01 12:18 PM (22 years, 4 months ago)

Hello everyone, my buddy is got twelve jars almost fully colonized and i'm wondering about casing, is the yield much higher with casing rather than just fruiting the cakes, how many cakes do you use for each casing or is it just as big as you want your casing to be? what is the best casing tek for verm/brf that gives the HIGHEST POSSIBLE yield, i've read alot but can't really seem to get any straight forward answers to my questions. thanks.

Oh yeah, also, with twelve half pint jars, how much would you yield total after all flushes both with casing and without, thanks.

OK, you're asking the wrong questions. It's not about how much, but how. Grow a crop or two, then you can worry about yield.

hey chronic. I'm in the same boat as you. from what I understand, casing gives a much higher yield than just using the cakes themselves. I also think you can use as little as one jar and get a very successful casing that has an incredibly high yield. My question, for whoever is reading this, is which casing method using a colonized PF cake is best? And also, when sterilizing a casing in the microwave, how long and at what power should I be microwaving at?

Hey puscle,
I've grown a few crops and now I'm wondering about casing. What technique is good for using a colonized PF cake? Also, when sterilizing the vermiculate and perlite in a microwave, can I use a regular ziplock bag, and how long should I microwave them for? Thanks.

I like, 1 part potting soil to one part vermiculite. I steam for two hours. (I have no microwave)

Stick with the PF-Tek. Microwave sterilization can cause unpredictable moisture loss.

Stay with PF tek your first time. Think of it as a rite of initiation. Ya just gotta do it. Really it's the way to get a basic understanding. I know you've been lurking your ass off and figuring it all out but the deal is you got to think like the shroom. In order to think like a shroom you got to feel the shroom. Then be the shroom. Then you eat the shroom. Then, and only then can you think like a shroom and move on to bigger and better.

i tried microwaving the jars (sans metal lids) and ended up cooking the substrate. i'm sticking with boiling until i get a pressure cooker.

also, i wouldn't try a regular ziploc. i bet a ziploc would melt if it's full of hot vermiculite. not sure about that one, though . . .

good luck

No. Not MUCH higher yields. Higher yields, ok?

As mentioned before, stick with the standard PF tek the firsttime. There is always time for experimenting later.

Go with the PF Casing Method ON this web page. I have herd very good things about this cassing. I am also in the same boat as all of you. I am still learning about cassing too. I guess using the just cakes instead on casing kinda sux. Good luck. PW me and tell how it goes

Here's the question I've wanted to ask for some while now. Anno, you seem like the guy...
Can I case using crumbled cakes that have flushed a couple times? (BRF PF Substrate)

Also, please confirm I'm ok to use just moist verm on bottom and moist verm/peat on top of my casing. What is the proper peat PH?

Thanks dude.
