First time grower! my situation...

I basically would like to grow mushrooms very discreetly, like say in a closet. I understand that the PF-Tek is the easiest, so I will probably go with that... this is a stupid question, but do I need spores in order to grow? Or can I just mix some products in a jar and basically wait? (That's what I'm hoping for.)
I'm still living with my mom (19 years old, FWI), but pay rent but she is still kind of on my ass on things; that's why I have to be discreet as possible as I attempt to grow these. If I have to order anything online, I'm basically screwed too. I live within walking distance of a WalMart and Home Depot.
PF Tek seems simple enough, any step-by-step online guides with pictures and a 'shopping list'? I have minimal space, and get lost with instructions somewhat easily... so I'm trying hard here. More of an accomplishment thing... Anyway, I can't get spore syringes; so any way I can just mix up compost and such inside a jar and let the mushrooms grow 'naturally'? Or whatever... just a little insight? Thanks.

Sorry if this sounds rude, but you're stupid if you grow in your mother's house. Remember, you also put her at risk for you actions. Plus, you live in California. Spores can not be sent to you, its illegal.

NO, you need spores. And there are several stages for cultivation, you will need plenty of room. If you cant comfortably grow where you live don't do it, its not worth it

Holy dog shit! Texas? Only steers and queers come from Texas, Private Cowboy. And you don't look much like a steer to me so that kinda narrows it down. Do you suck dicks?

if you're caught growing in your parent's home, then the police can take the home, auction it off, and keep the money. Oh, and then throw your entire family in jail. Sounds fun, doesnt it?
However there is a nice benefit to paying rent for your room. Police invited to search the rest of the home would not be legally allowed to search your room if you denied them access, unless they got a warrant specifically stating right of search to your rented room. This information is straight from a retired police officer of 30 years, in the state of California, so nobody bother contradicting me on that.
Here in california spores are illegal to order.
Nothing will grow without the spores. How in the hell would the mushrooms get started if they didn't have any spores in there? There would have to be specific psilocybe cubensis spores floating in your air, and even then if you just let the jars sit around, contaminants such as bacterium, molds, and other fungi would grow far faster and destroy the cake.
You need spores... you need parental permission... you need to be very discreet... and spores are illegal in california.
Your best bet is to go mushroom hunting, and get an experienced person (and no, not just a friend of yours who has seen shrooms before... that's an easy way to die, I restate, DIE) to identify it as P. Cubensis. You could use them then, perhaps harvest something from them, something that you could use to grow more? Outside of your own property?
