growing blue ringers
    #4795072 - 10/12/05 08:21 PM (19 years, 3 months ago)

ok i have a question, i went a picked a few blue ringers out of the golf course near my house and i didnt get enough to eat so i was thinking about breaking up the cap and spreading it in my yard which is shady with a lot of trees. what i want to know is if i did that would they grow there or would it be a waste of time? and if it would should i just toss the peices of the cap on the ground or should i actually mash them into the ground?

have you considered making a spore print? You'll find the how-to for that in the FAQ. It's rather simple and not too hard to keep it sterile.

You can make a spore print and it is something similar to seeds. You can inoculate grain or something and the shroomies will grow.

ok, im not sure we're talking about the same thing. the thing i read on spore printing gives you directions on how to make a print on a peice of paper. how could you use that to grow them? (ive never grown shrooms before so im sorry if these are stupid questions)

take the print and scrape off spores into a syringe with water

inject syringes into jars with rye or some kind of nutrient rich material

spores will grow on the material and turn into shrooms

not stupid questions, as long as you learn. A spore print is indeed for purposes of growing. they're certainly not for decorative purposes!

Spore prints can be placed in a sterilized container, and sterile water can be added from a sterile syringe to rinse the spores off the print backing (foil is a good option, somewhat nonstick). Then when the spores are loosened and are suspended in the water you can suck them back up into the syringe. And viola, you have a syringe of spores which can grow into many full cakes of shroomies.

You can dilute this syringe down, too... since it will likely be very densely populated with spores.

Go find the FAQ section and read the first part, for newbies. it helped me a lot in understanding things.

If you want to grow mushies, the "PF Tek" guide to cultivation is intended to be easy enough for beginners to do. I'm doing it myself right now. Very easy, you just have to remember to be obsessively clean and sterile about everything nearby.
