I'm paranoid about contams...I made some honey water jars a few days ago...I have been scared to innoculate them with spore water, was waiting to see if they grew anything on their own...Will the contams make themselves known in the honey water, or will they wait until I innoculate the substrate????
Contams sometimes make themselves known in honey tek but often they don't. That is why I don't care for this method. Shroom mycelium looks like pieces of cotton floating in the clear liquid but so do molds. Sometimes the mycelium grows on the surface where it becomes thick, solid, and white but this is OK. If the medium becomes uniformly cloudy or if there is a scum on top or a sediment on the bottom or any off colored growth, you have a contam.
